Lions slotted #'s for tomorrows picks are

#133 non-trade comp pick (4th rd)
#136 non-trade comp pick (4th rd)
#146 from Seattle in their 2nd rd trade up(a 5th rd pick)
#189 (6th rd pick)
#227 traded to Seattle for moving up from original #45 to #40 Seattle via Minnesota

I inexplicably thought we received Seattle's 5th rd pick #172, that is INCORRECT

Let's not be silly, we need DeAnthony Thomas. Always need a 4th RB to compliment the other 3 rb's.

There are 3 2nd round graded guards still on the board too David Yankey, Cyril Richardson, and Dakota Dozier. All good replacements for Sims next year if he leaves.

Don't laugh -- if the Lions draft Larry Webster, many sites project him to be moved to TE, because of his basketball background and speed.

Here are the rankings of players left at TE on CBS:
TIGHT END
1. Arthur Lynch, Georgia (6-5, 258)
2. Larry Webster, Bloomsburg (6-6, 252)
3. Rob Blanchflower, Massachusetts (6-4, 256)
4. Jake Murphy, Utah (6-4, 249)
5. Blake Annen, Cincinnati (6-4, 247)

Again, in no particular order:

-Keith McGill-----Big corner that is still a bit raw, but has tremendous upside.
-Ed Reynolds-----Smart safety that played on a tough defense. Could learn a lot from Quin.
-Aaron Murray-----I've wanted the Lions to grab in in the later rounds since forever. He has played in the same pro system that Stafford has, has faced the top defenses year in and year out, and could have a great learning relationship with a former Bulldog. Maybe Matty could convince the F.O. of this pick? :noidea:

We are entering the 4th rd, this is not the place to draft another CB. You are looking at developmental talent only and we already have that. If we add a DB it has to be a S. Maybe someone like Bailey or Dixon.

I think a G makes sense as many quality starters are found for that position at this stage in the draft. Certainly a developmental DE who can rotate in next season with Ziggy and Taylor makes sense. Another DT and WR are needed and I think it's a pick well spent to get the highest ranked K.

I would also love to see the Lions make a couple small trades to acquire several 7th rd picks. I have never given it an in depth study but have sort of paid more attention at the end of the draft where smart teams like the Pats will select players that were rated much higher but have fallen for character, injury, or other undisclosed reasons. Many of those picks by teams have panned out very well. Every pick there would be ones with a huge reward possibility and virtually no risk. Think Alphonso Dennard for just one example.

I really like this Jerome Couplin kid that I just read about this a.m. He'a a smaller school freakish athlete, ala Chris Greenwood, but played FBS Subdivision or whatever the old Division One-AA is called now, not D-II or D-III (like Greenwood). Also sounds like he's farther along than Greenwood in his development and has great instincts and high character. William & Mary is a good school, so you know the kid aint no dummy, either.

Here's his numbers and such that I lifted from this website: http://www.*****************/forum/nfl-draft/178022-jerome-couplin-iii-william-amp-mary/ *

Jerome Couplin III 6´1 213 William & Mary

- First-Team All-American The Associated Press, The Sports Network, Walter Camp Foundation
- Finalist for Buck Buchanan Award ( Best Defensive Player In College Football )

2013 113 tackles, 70 solo tackles, 2,5 for loss, 6 pass break ups, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery for 51 yrds touchdown, 5.8 solo tackles per game ( ranked 11th nationally )

Pro Day Numbers
40 Yrd Dash 4.55
10 Yrd Dash 1.59
Bench 18
Vertical 41 1/2 "
Broad 11´02"
20 Yrd Shuttle 4.41
3-Cone Drill 6.94

He is a very instinctive player, a terrific tackler and highly competitive. With his physical style of play, his terrific athleticism and long arms ( 80-inch wingspan ) he might even be able to become a press corner. I think next season he could be a terrific ST player and would provide very good competition for the safety back up spot.

His three-cone drill jumps out to me- shows good change-of-dirction skills. They list his wingspan at 80", I've read 82". Either way, that's insane. Add another 15 lbs to that 6'1" frame and let him learn behind 'Digs for the next two years and he could be a difference-maker on the back end...

David Yankee wasn't supposed to slide nearly this far from what I remember reading about him. If he's still there in the 4th he'd be a great addition.

I don't think we can ignore DE and WR. Webster might work. I would be on board with a back up QB too. 7th rd kicker.

At this point the names are probably irrelevant.

If we drafted Yankey we'd have 5 starting linemen next year (2015) all 26 years old (Reiff) or younger...

Agreed, a kicker in the 6th would cap off a good draft so far. We haven't made the sexiest picks so far, but they'll all be starters (Ebron and Van Noy right away, Swanson 2015 or 2016) and look to project as long-term solutions at their positions.

We have tons of options in the 4th and 5th for guys who could be good starters with a few years of coaching, and getting a "starting" kicker in the 6th would fill a big hole...

I think based on the position values the order would have to be:

WR & QB at 133 and 136, too close together to make a difference
DE @ 146
K @ 189

My preference might be to trade up to get the WR we want with next years 5th and take a QB at 136
