How would you go about fixing the Flames? Is it time for a firesale yet? I know changing the GM & the coach is a no brainer but the Flames have a number of guys making big money on multi-year contracts. It's not easy to trade those deals. I'm sure there wouldn't be a problem with trading Iginla. Guys like Jokinen & Jaybo would be tough though.

It's not time for a firesale yet because a) very few teams have cap room and b) aside from a few teams, you don't know if you are a contender or a pretender. I think you have to be patient and wait until at least Xmas or closer to the trade deadline when more teams have cap room and are looking to add somebody for a deep playoff run.

I look at teams like St. Louis and the LA Kings that a) have good young players and b) could use some more scoring and then have to make the tough decision of trading Jarome Iginla. You then have to look at other teams like Philly then haven't had a top-flight goalie forever and then determine what kind of return you could get for Kipper.

taking contract term and dollars out of the picture, all 3 guys you mention also have either no trade or no movement clauses so theres an added complication right there

I don't know if you guys saw this gem the other day for Jokinen, but isn't there an old saying that goes "in every joke there's a tiny element of truth?"

Those rows of zeros are nothing to worry about.

Which is what Olli Jokinen, centre of the Calgary Flames' top line, is trying to explain to the press. As he points out, there is plenty of schedule remaining for he and his cohorts, Alex Tanguay and Jarome Iginla.

"Tangs told me a couple of days ago that you need 60 good games to get 100 points," Jokinen, grin in place, is saying after Wednesday morning's practice. "So we can still take 20 games off. But I don't know if you guys are patient enough for that.

"Just kidding."

Wow Jokinen is a piece of work. For him to say something like that is messed up.
