I've cooled on Butler some - so would have to say that I'd be OK with it, but not overly excited. A bit how I felt about Sly William a few years ago.

At 31 , with the depth at DT, I'd rather take a chance on greatness or wait for a DT later.

Is Butler a chance on greatness? Not sure, so I think there are others options at 31 with a chance for greatness I'd be happier with.

I have a buddy who coaches dline and he thinks butler is the 2nd best interior defensive lineman in this class behind buckner. Says his size and measurables and motor are going to turn him into a more explosive linval joseph

I have cooled on butler somewhat too (because Jones is my guy) but Butler is my 4th favorite interior dline prospect in this class. I think his best spot for us is as heavy 5 tech, but he can kick inside in sub packages

I am very high on Butler.

i see a lot more upside in him then Sylvester Williams, whom I was like George when we took him. It made sense, we needed the position but it wasn't something that had me jumping up in the air like a Bradley Roby pick did.

Shon Coleman I am good with in round 2. I am not HUGE on the guy, but in late round 2 I would glady take him. Coleman wouldn't have me doing flips by any means but I think it makes a lot of sense in round 2. I am sorta under the impression with our free agent deals that we don't go OT early though. Not that we couldn't as Okung is basically a one year deal, so if we see something we like we may, but we have to be in love with it.

Butler would have me fairly excited. Not DB love happy excited, but about as happy as I could be with a DT. He moves so well with good explosion.

Right now my 'realistic' top 5 for our pick (some guy might be there that I wasn't expecting to be there... like darron lee maybe?)

1. Chris Jones
2. Vernon Butler
3. Germain Ifedi
4. Jon Bullard
5. Jason Spriggs

I will be real surprised if Lee is there, but I am sure someone we don't expect will be there and a few we expect to be there won't. :)

Yep. I am not a proponent of going ilb early, but lee might be too good to pass up if he for some reason fell to 31. Same can be said for some of the tackles in this draft. Like if Conklin or Decker is there at 31 (i don't expect them to be) i pry take them.

I could see that. I think Phins really like Apple as well (who i think i might take at 31 if he were there. Is a perfect fit for what we want at the position)

I've been meaning to ask you DC - I would love drafting Apple at 31 and making him a Safety. I think if this kid kept the play in front of him his ball skills would translate into big plays. What do you think of that idea? I know CBs don't want to be Safeties -because that is not where the money is, but Apple actually could start off as a Safety and convert to CB - or take reps both ways.

I could see that. I would rather Apple get reps at CB though and move Kayvon to safety.

Apple could be a good safety without a doubt. He is still very raw and learning the CB position which down the road his coverage skills may be too good to throw back at S, but I think he could be a good safety without a doubt. I would have no issues with that.

Really he should have stayed in school and been a sure bet top 15 pick next year given a good year to develop. Now, he still could end up a top 15 pick but his stock is very bouncy. I fear a team like the Raiders will take him and then he may not develop like theyve struggled doing with picks. New era I know, but Id rather him end up elsewhere for his own good and ours. :)

But seems from what I have been told by a good source the Raiders like William Jackson better.

I think you're under valueing your top 3. Not sure anyone of them will be there 31, 63, 94? All three seem to be moving up boards. Jones maybe is there? I've seen a couple mocks with Ifedi going in the 1st or 2nd. Lots of chatter on Butler right now. Then again with the draft you never know if there is a run on a certain position and players start falling.

Doc was referring to his top 5 choices for our pick at 31.
