wouldn't hate it but also agree with not trading up and mortgaging our future draft capital.
this team is not built to win right away. we are going to need those high draft picks in 2025.

Don't temp me because I love Drake Maye. Hate trading picks with the way our team is set up right now but we obviously are moving up to get out biggest needs and the #1 asset to win in the NFL. Nervous, happy and unhappy all at the same time. I love Maye.

The other two picks are dope!

I would actually take Payton Wilson ahead of Kris Jenkins so to get him at 90 would have me doing back flips and Jenkins at 76 is fine.
I prefer Maason Smith over Jenkins but Smith will be gone by them, IMO.

Yea, I would do it, but only for Maye or Williams. The other two picks fill huge voids, grade A draft scenario

Most of us have spent our pre-draft time debating the virtues of Nix, McCarthy or Penix. Drake Maye would be a dream. I would jump on this if it were possible.

I would prefer building a squad that will rise in 2-3 seasons than selling the house for JJ McCarthy. If we move up for McCarthy it has to be a good deal and I don't see that being possible. I think he is just way too risky to give up a lot for. I would be more willing to give more for Maye but really think we need to stay or move down... Not give up more picks.

I think Payton has a Plan A and Plan B here. One that includes "if the price is right" which is unlikely and another that is more likely which includes staying at 12 drafting BPA at 12 with another plan in place at QB or moving down.

I say get the #1 draft pick next year. And trade down ever time we get a chance and pick up extra picks next year Build a team next year . at this point we are not all that good on DL and at best okay with LB'er we need way more picks ! Russell has set us back eat his money as much as possible and move on ! I belive we could get a lot of good players this year all the same including Nix . and on that trade down we could get a player that would be a starter next year if we were lucky .

Now saying that If we Do I will not complain. just IMO way to high of a price Because we are more than likely going to get the first pick next year because we have no # 1 WR or IMO a # 2 WR with that trade . Bad Idea

i would ask those who want to build the team. What was Denver doing in the years 2016-2021 if not building the team? 6 years of building what?

get the QB if Payton thinks he is a franchise guy.

you can build the team if the QB is in place.
not sure when the NFL will come around to the data but outside QB the first round outside the top 10 is not that important.
i think 90% of first round picks never see a 2nd contract with the team.

I’m at the point of saying if Nix is Payton’s preferred QB, don’t screw around - if he’s there at 12, draft him.

Yep- We will know just how "much" he loves him.

Part of me thinks it is a good sign if he won't trade down and get him but rather take him at 12 because he is so convinced. QB isn't a position you risk a move down if you REALLY like someone. Typically, trade downs are for when you like 2 or 3 players who you think at least 1 will make it back to you.

44% of nfl players drafted in rd 1 see a second contract with their original team.
Statistically, the first round across all positions gives you a 6u% chance of drafting a starter. That percentage plummets to 27% for round 2, and 17% for round 3. Single digits after that.

So what were they doing? Throwing darts based upon those percentages. And considering the starters we got after rd 1 like Meinerz, Williams, Cooper, Risner, Jones, Sutton, Jewell, Simmons, McGovern etc, they (Paton mostly) did a damn good job.

question was how many picks 11-32 see an 2nd. bet it’s closer to 27%.

your list confirms my premise get your QB give up the 1st round picks and build the team with picks 2-7 and CFA

I was providing some statistics. You can use them to support or disprove whatever you like. :)

you all know that in 1965 Denver drafted Dick Butkus and KC drafted Gale Sayers and Denver actually had the overall first pick and traded it to HOU who traded it to Jets who selected Joe Namath.

They had the top pick in 1961 too. Of course that was the AFL, which doesn't count much to me since in those years they also drafted guys like Merlin Olsen, Paul Krause, Bob Hayes, and others who never played a down for us. Or worse, trading a player and pick to be LOANED a back up qb for 2 years.

The loaner QB was Craig Primrose - If I remember correctly.
