It's going to be very interesting to see what the Giants do pre/post deadline. Their organization is obviously very solid and they've been building from within for years now. So what is their plan? This is a big part of baseball that I love.

Latest report is that Lincy and Pence could POSSIBLY be on the trading block.

Contenders would snap them both up. Timmy to the Pirates? If nothing else to keep him away from the Cardinals? What if the Dodgers come calling? Does Sabean answer the phone or not? :omg:

I don't see a decent match with the doggies. The giants primary desire would be prospects in a return, not pure sal dump (coming from someone who is not connected to the finances of the team, of course).

I think the Reds, Pirates and Tigers would probably be the most likely trade partners.

How can anyone not respect the Pirates right now. Talk about everything coming together at just the right time to be contending and in a position to be major players at the deadline.

cal, asking honestly here: Who could potentially be waived after the deadline?

I don't see any waives (save for Gaudin, but that is too fresh of a story to know where that is going). We don't have anyone who is causing problems like Rowand and Tejada were in '11.

DFA is a tool that I do not expect SabeySabes to use this year.

So Zito wouldn't be a waivers candidate after the deadline? You sure?

Positive.

1) We don't have anyone in the minors ready to even fill in garbage time in the rotation right now.

2) He has become a fan fave, despite his recent struggles.

3) He is a great guy, by most accounts. He took the shit over the last 5 years like a champ (a two-time champ?).

DFA's are used to clear cancers, open a spot to see kids, or open a spot for another need on a contender. Zito does not qualify for any of those reasons.
