"This is a tragedy," Paterno said in a statement. "It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more."

Paterno met with his coaching staff and players in the football building at Penn State for about 10-15 minutes Wednesday, a meeting players described as very emotional.

Paterno met with his coaching staff and players for about 10-15 minutes in an auditorium of the football facility. Standing at a podium, he told them he was leaving and broke down in tears.

Players gave him a standing ovation when he walked out.

Junior quarterback Stephon Morris said some players also were nearly in tears as Paterno spoke.

"I still can't believe it," Morris said. "I've never seen Coach Paterno like that in my life."

Asked what was the main message of Paterno's talk, Morris said: "Beat Nebraska."

You can say that all you want JJM... but if it was TO in the same boat years ago... I could guarantee most players would have a hard time seperating the "win one for the gipper" and the "Shit, this is fucked up and he should have done whats right" thoughts....

It don't matter... the game is won on the field and if we are not motivated enough to win out the rest of the year... then whatever is the end result will be justified... We need to take care of us... not them...

It was somewhat of a knee jerk reaction on my part..........I admit. But man I think back to when I was in sports, and even though we had a prick for a coach that nobody liked and he was very corrupt, if he would have started crying in front of us showing how much he didn't wanna leave us...............that shit would have motivated us beyond any level that we had ever been motivated. I am almost certain.

Huskers need to come out with a chip on their shoulder after that Northwestern game. The folks in white are gonna have that place rockin' on Saturday.............suddenly support for Joe is starting to pick up steam again, all because of one little speech he gave.

So his message was basically the same as it's been for the past 15 years or so. Also the same message from the school President. A game of football is all that matters.

Well, he gave a 15 minute speech and talked for the majority of the time about his wrongdoings from what I understand. But at the end the message he left his players with was "Beat Nebraska."

Shit, some of the players were even crying

This^^^ will be like an Ocean wave... up and down... the reality is... the facts will overtake any idol sentiment in that program... I feel bad for them... it is going to be an emotional roller coaster up through game time and beyond!!!

I do not think under the circumstances tears by a coach who had the ability to stop much more harm to innocent kids... will play well... Maybe they are wired differently in PA... but I think not... The best team will win the game regardless of your thread post!

lol, well I can guarantee you my thread post itself will play no part in deciding the outcome of this game.

I'm jest saying.......from what the players seem to be saying up there at Penn State right now, it sounds like they believe their coach did what he was supposed to do, and they have his back.

There is a lot more to this than meets the eye, nothing seems right about any of it.

I'm wondering that as well. Just saw this from April 4, 2011.

Madden: Sandusky a State secret - Timesonline.com: Mark Madden:

FTFA: The Jerry Sandusky situation seems a matter of failure to connect certain dots, or perhaps unwillingness in that regard. Lots of people besides the former Penn State defensive coordinator have some explaining to do.

Unbelievable. How fcuking on the money was that dude?

I read on another board that Mike McQueary and Sandusky's boy were good friends and so were the families. If so that would explain a portion of WTF

Could it be JoPa's hands were tied by PSU?

I shouldn't have titled this thread "we're screwed"...........should have been more something along the lines of "I hope we show up"............because I really feel like theeee Nittany Lions are going to rally for theirn coach.

should have titled it.."We can beat everyone, we just don't like to show up half the time"

Penn St won't play this huge inspired game.....If we lose, its because we are flat and someone can't get motivated.

It doesn't matter if his hands were tied or not, he should have gone to the police if nothing was done by people higher up than him. He screwed up big time by not doing so.
