Its week 1 not week 12. Our Defense didnt look amazing after week one last year either. We will be fine we have to figure things out first. Prince looked great and so did gomez. People need to stop freaking out and just relax about it we will be fine.

I don't really think anyone is freaking out........

But the defensive performance was disappointing, to say the least....

It is week 1 yes but there were issues that should have been resolved by week 1. The blackshirts should have been able to shut out this team but in the second quarter they just plain got ran over.

Week one of last year (a four loss season) Florida Atlantic was unable to score a touchdown. Week one of this year it is only a miracle, albeit created by our defense, that this team that lost it's last 20 games did not get 2 touchdowns.

It may be I bought into the hype and now have come back down to earth but I can't buy that this game was just Week 1 mistakes. We do have some great talent on the defensive side but they are not Blackshirts yet. Hopefully it will not be the end of October this year before they gel.

I was hoping against all odds that we would run the table this year in a farewell tour and then play a BCS bowl, possibly even the championship bowl.

I have revised to hopefully only 2 or 3 losses this year That would still be a good year but something needs to change or we will be a 4 or 5 loss team. Comparing last year we are worse than week one and week one of last year was middle of the pack Sunbelt and this year was bottom of the pit, can't remember when we won a game Sunbelt.

I would disagree with your assessment that we were better last year week one than we are now.......

I might of been speaking from the heart instead of the head. When I look at the stats it appears you are right except when it comes to stopping the rush. W. Kentucky 179 yards opposed to FAU 122 with Rainey getting most of the yards.

I stand by our rush defense is worse or Rainey is a stud. I still have got my feet back on the ground though and stand by a 2 or 3 loss season.

I can see a lot more possibilities on our offense and if any one can light a fire on our defensive line it is the P. Bros. but I would rather set my sights to a top 20 season and be pleased with a top 5 then set for top 5 and be pissed at top 20.

But picking it a part I think you are right I do see more possibility this year.

Thanks I feel better now I can go eat my breakfast.

The defense was not 'better' last year week 1. Florida Atlantic (last years week 1 opponent) had 358 (122 rush/236 pass) of offense while Western Kentucky had 299 (120 pass/179 rush). I'll give their back Rainey credit; the guy was tough on the ground and had some nice runs. At least NU didn't lose 6-3, fought tooth and nail to a 31-24 win, or had trouble with Miami (Ohio). As posted everything that happened is fixable. David and Whaley need experience as most of the big runs were because of those two and even Crick was out of position on occasion. Give the 'D' a break; they aren't going to hold any division 1 teams regardless of talent to 0 yards.

I just think we lost some passion or aggression after we took a big lead especially on the d-line.
