Tied at 3-3 with the Slovaks late in the quarter final game, Getz makes a ridiculous knee on knee hit and gets 5 and a game. Of course, Slovakia scores the game winner.

Glad I got up early to see us embarrass ourselves yet again at the WHC. :L

Also worth mentioning Dion was at his finest today, producing more turnovers than a German bakery.

Come on, is anybody really surprised that a Brent Sutter coached team would flame out (pardon the pun) early in this tourney? Look at his recent track record, no playoff series wins with the Devils and no playoffs in three years with the Flames. The only time he's had any success is with stacked teams at the World Junior Hockey Championships (hell, anybody on this board could have coached those teams to gold medals).

Also, Hockey Canada needs to stop tabbing Kevin Lowe as the GM of these teams. Dion Phaneuf, Luke Schenn, Kyle Quincey as defensemen?!? Really? And if you want to scout Ryan Murray, do it on your own dime and fly down to Everett, Washington, don't use this tourney as your personal scouting camp.

It was also interesting to see that John Tavares (who should have been named captain of this team) was answering the tough questions afterwards. Getzloaf was probably too busy puking into a bucket from last night's bender.

Well, the team did have a very good round robin. But it's youth was blatantly obvious today just by the sheer stupidity they showed all game. Wasn't just Getzlaf. Evander Kane as about as useless as anybody up front.

Well, the team did have a very good round robin.

The record was deceiving though, aside from the last two games against Team Borat and Belarus, they had to battle in every game. They weren't ready to play at the start of games (that was a Flames trademark all last season) and again today, they were terrible in the first period.

Oh well, Lowe continues to prove he is a moron. Wonder when that statute of limitations of goodwill from his 2006 Oilers team will run out with Hockey Canada.

Nothing better following this brutal loss than hearing a list of Rod Black's excuses.

I'd also like to add congrats to Slovakia and best of luck for the remainder of the tourney. Pavol Demitra is smiling down from the heavens.

between that his recent comments and his flames missing the playoffs for 3 years I can see him being on the sidelines for a couple years

I think his statute of limitations fall into 2002 Canada not so much the Oilers run . I would just like him out of Team Canada altogether like you however.

Nugent-Hopkins wasn't very good in this tourney, shying away from contact along the boards, I think his shoulder is still bugging him (but knowing that Oilers medical staff, he's good to go).

I'll just drop this here - Russia in a tough battle with those pesky Norwegians, it's 3-2 Russia halfway through the 3rd period. Ole Kristian-Tollefsen is crushing every Russian who crosses his path.

Ah, well, RUS has scored. Now watch as it sits its pure scorers down and plays bunker hoc... Wait! That would be everyone.

Slava Malamud ‏@SlavaMalamud
Funny question: who tends RUS goal in Sochi? Not Khabi (old), or Bryz (nuts), or Varly (if loses to NOR, citizenship revoked). Nobody?

Slava Malamud ‏@SlavaMalamud
If NOR beats RUS, we will lose our poop and execute a lot of folk, but it will still be a great day for the sport of hockey #ThereISaidIt

huh. my PVR didn't kick in last night.
sounds like I didn't miss much. I see Bellows got a clutch garbage goal.

maybe that #5 ranking wasn't too far off? (overestimating?)
I agree with Dash's rant earlier. even though this isn't Canada's A roster, the group they sent should have dominated a lot of teams and just didn't. Lack of motivation, piss-poor coaching, too much vodka? I don't know.

very disappointing result. fuck Lowe. I hope he gets massive heat for this (and prior results) from Hockey Canada.

USA-Finland re-match starting soon. should be a doozy.
