Report: Five suspended players
to be immediately reinstated

by Chris Towers |
CBSSports.com

ESPN.com reports Monday the NFL will reinstate five players
immediately following the agreement of the new drug policy. Those five players
coming off suspension are:

Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker ; Rams wide receiever Stedman Bailey ; Cowboys corner Orlando Scandrick ; Giants offensive lineman Eric Herman ; and free agent defensive lineman Spencer Nealy.

The new agreement is expected to be ratified in the next 24 hours. Other
players are expected to have their drug suspensions impacted by the agreement as
well.

That's all I can find :noidea:

I think we need him back ASAP. He is that guy that when the offense is not clicking will go to Manning and say "just throw it to me and I will find a way to get a first down." Just doesn't seem like we have that guy right now that steps up when we need them most.

I agree with this. Not sure more rest beyond the four weeks he will have had would make a ton of difference regarding his concussions. If there's medical information that disputes that thought then I would of course stand corrected. Welker's health is the first priority but man, it would be great to have that weapon next Sunday in Seattle.

I remember when Sidney Crosby had several concussions and took 4 months off when his career was in jeopardy. He hasn't had one since and he attributes it to taking off all that time. I think they're really at the infancy stage of concussion knowledge so who knows. I think like all injuries, the more time you can give it to heal the better.

Makes a ton of sense, HOF and is probably very accurate (Crosby quote). It's the crazy fan in me that wants Welker to suit up but as I said before, his long term health should be everyone's first priority. After all, it's only football, right? (looking in the mirror and coaching/reprimanding myself!)

Yeah MH, I think as fans we're all like that. He's a crazy dude and I'm sure he will be back out there the second they let him. I saw where his good buddy Tom Brady wants him to retire. All joking aside from a competitor, he was serious. Hopefully he doesn't get another one but if he does he needs to shut it down for the season if not his career.

The only thing that guarantees Welker will be healthy is if he retires. He could play this week or rest a few more weeks but either way a concussion could happen at any time because its football. Its up to his doctors and himself. Just saying.

Of course there is always risk but we're talking about minimizing the risks as much as possible. As I said, they still have a long way to go to understand concussions. I don't say that, the docs do. The guys that have had multiple concussions seem to get them with less and less violent impacts. Sid the kid took 4 months off and he hasn't had one since nor has he had the symptoms.

Looks like the NFL and NFLPA have agreed to a new drug policy. Welker was told to report to work tomorrow / Wednesday morning. Looks like it will be all hands on deck for the Seahawks Sunday.

Retiring doesn't guarantee Welker's health. Just saying.

You seem to miss the point on these kind of discussions. Every player in the league has risks every week of getting a concussion. Heck we all do. I could walk out of my office right now trip and hit my head on a table and get a concussion. That is not the issue at play here. The discussion is about whether Welker returning right now is in the best interest of Welker and even the team. Just like any injury when a Concussion happens the Brain needs time to heal properly. The more time you give it the more time it has to actually heal as close to normal as possible. I don't think the Brain ever gets back to quite what it was before the concussion just like say you cut yourself there is still always going to be that scar. So the question becomes with such a hard hitting team like Seattle especially over the middle is it worth risking Welker on the field or is it better to say give him another couple of weeks (because of the Bye) and feel a little better about his chances of actually playing the rest of the season?

Now for me I am torn on this one. I think our offense has greatly been missing Welker. He is our 3rd down genius that Manning trusts above any other player on the team to be where he needs to be and make the difficult catch. Against a team like Seattle who provides pressure quickly that outlet in Welker can be huge. At the same time the idea of losing Welker possibly for the season just to have his abilities in one game that in the long run matters probably least of any of our games on the schedule (road game against an NFC opponent) is an interesting choice. I'm very interested to see what the Coaches do with Welker being back at practice this week and how much he will actually be involved in the game plan.

With Welker and what, 3 headbangs in 10 mos, not practicing, obviously the guy is prone to them and of course having to do one of the most dangerous jobs in the NFL,going across the middle, I would be very hesitant at playing him Sunday.IMO of course

I would think they might use him as a decoy in maybe the first couple series if the situation, like a 3rd down, just to get Seattle's attention maybe.

I think I would rather see him not play. Two more weeks of rest would probably make a difference in his likelihood of not getting another concussion this season. We can beat Seattle without him.
