Band of Brothers
A Dreamer...trying to find my way home for dinner
Welcome to the Show
Billy Bumster was a kid form New Jersey..got drafted in the 18th round by the Yankees..Billy played 2nd base..a switch hitter who played the game with style and grace..baseball was in his blood..dreamed as a kid he would hit a homerun in the 9th inning of the deciding game to win the World Series..Billy busted his butt..played for the triple AAA club..did all his leg work and lifted weights before the sun came up. Billy refused to let up..He had to live on eating Micky D's and cheap ice cream. Not much money in the game for up and comers in those days..It was the summer of '84 when Billy Bumster got his call..the manager of the Yankees was on the phone..he said Billy we could use you in the line up come sun up..Billy was happy beyond belief..he packed his bag..called his Mom and Dad.
He stuck some chew and gum in his back pocket..and headed for the airport. Billy's smile could be seen from the minor leagues to the Yankees. When he got to the Yankee clubhouse..the clubhouse man asked him what number he wanted to play ball in. He chose 18..As he got ready to hit the field..he was met by the boss George Steinbrenner . The boss patted Billy on the back ..told him he was glad to have him..as the boss was leaving he turned to the kid and said..
(Chorus) Welcome to the Show
Billy was about to live his dream
The Bronx Bombers were his favorite team
He was the new man on the scene
It was welcome to the Show..Billy Bumster
(Chorus End)
The players nick named him Bum..and the kid always played for fun
Got 3 hits in his first game..played a flawless 2nd base..his team got the win
It was..
(Chorus)
Billy never looked back..hit for the cycle..bought a brand new motorcycle..made his parents proud..lBilly lived out his dream he had in his backyard. It was welcome to the show..Billy had made it all the way to Yankee Stadium one crisp September day.
Chorus)
(Rock or Country)
(Dedicated to the love of the game and the players who play it)
(Billy is a fictional character..The Boss is real and is missed by Yankee fans and baseball)
