This trap game is as traptastic as the Dallas one.

Expect another game to be decided on the last play.

Scares me that the Jags almost pulled off an upset against GB last week with Jake Luton at QB. Steelers might very well be primed for the same type of game. But honestly... It would take some epic level unraveling of sorts for the Steelers to give this one away. This defense should have no problem keeping the Jags below 10pts. Especially now that they are back to full strength on defense. Hilton & Wormley expected to be back this week.

Best chance the Jags have is on ST & if their defense can create turnovers.

That's how it SHOULD go. Yes.

Can't forget this staff's aptitude toward sleepwalking these types of games with minimal adjustments to their stubborn gameplans.

Interesting... Isaiah Buggs is inactive today after practicing in full all week? Are they resting him?

Also... They finally deactivate Jay-Sam... He's been doing next to nothing with his snaps and Randy continuously used him with poor results. Hopefully this means they are finally turning things over to Snell & McFarland.

Jaguars won't have Shenault today, and their starting CB Sidney Jones... Both are big losses for them on both sides.

Coaching... Are trap games a thing of the past? Hope so! Tomlin had his unit more than ready & not looking ahead to TNF. The offense continues to be a problem, mainly with playcalling, but luckily they got things going in the 2nd quarter. They were largely ineffective early on resulting in many drives that stalled after 30-40yds. Fichtner has very little feel for in-game coaching changes & adapting to the opponent. It's like he has 1 bag of tricks, and that's all he's got. He's as stubborn as a mule. 2nd or 3rd & long? Lets go with the draw or the WR bubble screen in the flat. lol. Also his substitutions make very little sense. He subbed out his best power runner to then run 2 straight power plays? Just 1 example of his questionable coaching. Outside of the opening drive the defense did exactly what it was supposed to do. Dominate. They forced 6 punts, 4 turnovers (INT), and 1 turnover on downs. Overall they held the Jags to a season-best 206 total yards of offense and 3 pts on the board. B

Offense
... 267 for 2 TDs, and 1 INT. Ben looked pretty good. The INT at the half was just a gunslinger mentality. Can't praise Ben for always keeping plays alive & making a ton of big plays and then kill him over the occasional INT. Diontae Johnson is on the rise. He's turning into Ben's go-to guy, and is one of the few that is actually creating consistent separation within his route tree. It's easy to see why Ben favored him to the tune of 12 catches for 111yds. He was devouring almost everything thrown his way, and even 1 spectacular catch that required intense concentration off a tipped ball. Conner found some success yesterday which was nice to see, but they still didn't rely on him. Coaches must be seeing something in practice that we don't with McFarland because he hasn't been making much of an impact at all. The O-line just isn't getting it done well enough to run the ball consistently, so I'm not going to fault McFarland when he's getting hit in the backfield on nearly every tote. They need Vance to get healthy fast because Ebron is miserable in the blocking game. After Gentry got hurt early they were very shorthanded on the stretch blocking outside. Saw a lot more Hawkins in TE-eligible heavy sets. Still didn't help get things going for them. B-

Defense
... Terrell Edmunds has been having a year. He has turned into the perfect complement to Minkah. The run defense was good overall, but that was more of a product of forcing Luton to play from behind & pass a lot. Don't want to read too far into it though as I saw numerous holds on big rushing plays for Jax. It was nice to have Hilton back acting as the mini-LB in the slot. The defense just plays more aggressively with him in the mix. Mostly by design, but Hilton's versatility to play slot LB & even drop into deep 3rd for additional safety coverage is wild. Those sort of dynamic looks can confuse even the savviest of vet QBs. Loved seeing Spilly crash the box on a few blitzes. He laid some big hits on those plays resulting in rushed incompletions and mitigated runs. Those sort of plays were usually designated for VWill, but adding different looks should help bolster this defense. A-

ST
... Huge shoutout to Marcus Allen to diagnose the onside kick at the start of the game. That could have been a tone setter for a snowball type of morning. A bad snap resulted in an early missed FG for Boz, but he was perfect after that. Berry's average took a dip, but he still managed a couple of 50+ yarders. Return game wasn't as good, and Ray-Ray had a miscommunication which resulted in a preemptive fair catch that was returnable. Oh well. B-

Overall
... Would have liked to have seen better from the offense (especially given 3/4 of their starting DBs left the game, and they were already shorthanded to begin with) but they really didn't have a lot of pressure to perform in the 2nd half. The defense had taken the Jags completely out of the game since the 1st quarter opening drive, and the Steelers were dominating the TOP comfortably. Still, 40% on 3rd downs was a far-cry of where they need to be on offense. B+

Outlook
... Very short week to play host to the Ravens on TNF for Thanksgiving. It brought a tear to my eye seeing the Steelers rest their starters for the final 6mins of their game, while the Ravens went into OT only to lose. Ravens will be ready to play though, make no doubt about it. The Titans delivered a gut punch to send the Ravens tumbling to 6-4, with their backs against the wall. Plus they should get back Campbell & Williams to bolster their interior D. They are going to pull out all the stops in an attempt to get the W this week at Heinz. It makes them both a dangerous team & extremely vulnerable. Vulnerable because Jackson is prone to mistakes when he's aggressive. Having the defense back to full strength gives me some optimism. Hopefully that means the Ravens' run game wont have the same level of success it did last time around. If they can force more 3 & outs early then they can take control of this game. As time has proven, the best way to defeat the Ravens is to score early and often to force Lamar to play traditional QB playing from behind. He hasn't been good in that role.
