Isaac Sopoaga - DL - 49ers

49ers NT Isaac Sopoaga has been diagnosed with a staph infection and is out indefinitely.
The area of the staph infection is unknown, but Sopoaga was held out of practice Wednesday. His absence could be a bit of a matchup boost for LeGarrette Blount in Week 5. Undersized Ricky Jean-Francois is Sopoaga's backup.

yep, no doubt!

but in the overall picture the 49ers have held good on the injury front. we could have it worse ala the Rams. at least this isn't a season ending problem..........i don't think?

its not only RJF, but woudn't Ian Williams have to spot him? Dobbs is a DE and Tukuafu is out too.

You are right about that, Deep!

I seem to recall a couple 49ers back in the '80's or '90's that had staph and they were out for awhile. I suppose it depends on how serious it is...

as it stands now, Williams would spell RJF at NT. instead, would they consider bringing in a FA to spell RJF? maybe not enough time but then again, thats why you'd consider a vet, he shouldn't need a lot of time?

again, just thinking as a back-up and assuming Sop is out more than this game.

If there is any consolation, RJF knows he is stepping into a situation that has a lot of momentum and hopefully that will help to inspire him to step up.
