Watched a Show about Reggie White and Jerome Brown

He was nevered offered a contract. I watched his wife say that on that show.

If I remember right, the official line from the Eagles is that they were prepared to offer him a competitive contract once he came back with offers from other teams. But by that time, he had already decided that he wasn't wanted in Philly and that God was directing him to Green Bay.

BTW, for those who haven't read it, "Bringing the Heat," by Mark Bowden (who also wrote Black Hawk Down) gives some really nice insight into that era. I honestly believe that the unraveling started with Jerome's death.

My daughter had Mark Bowden as a professor in a few classes at UD. i always thought the end of that era started with the Judge Doty decision that let Keith Jackson walk.

That certainly did grease the skids, but it was something of a perfect storm. Jerome was the glue that held the locker room together, and with him gone, the locker room was a mess. Regardless of what the Eagles said and/or did, I don't think there was any way to keep him. He just wanted the change of scenery (and the money didn't hurt, either).

What killed him early? Could he have been on something and that turned off some of the higher ups? I get the rest in peace part but he died awfully young.

He had a massive heart attack. All our days are numbered, and his days here on earth were up. Reggie truly was a role model, unlike some like Manziel. We need more Reggie white's.

His death was due to a heart arrhythmia disorder, most likely as a complication of obstructive sleep apnea. As someone who lives with both of those, I can tell you that they are very real, and very damaging if not properly diagnosed and treated.

Apparently he knew he had apnea, but he didn't follow the treatment.

I hear ya...it defintely takes getting used to.

I've worn that thing for many years, as well as a night guard to keep me from breaking my teeth in my sleep. The two appliances don't always get along very well. But I've found that they are now part of my sleep routine, and I can't rest comfortably without them.

Well Braman was planning on using that first ever franchise tag on him because Reggie was not going to spend another day under Braman if he didn't have to (why Braman never offered a real contract). Then the NFLPA worked into the FA rules that "teams can use franchise tags for 1 year at X$ per year, and Reggie White can not be tagged in year 1" The rule literally applied to everyone but Reggie. I always found it funnier how Reggie talked all off-season about wanting to go where he could help the inner city youth and such, and chose.... Green Bay Wisconson.

And yeah, while I found White's reasons for choosing GB odd (I also laughed at a buddy back then who was telling me how Favre was going to be great, whoops), I never disliked him for leaving. For me, that was all on Braman.

We had arguably the best defense ver. 1st in run D 1st in pass D and 1st in overall D. Those guys, all of them, we're tough mf'ers. Buddy knew how to pick D players. They showed clips from the Body Bag game, clips from Aikmen's 1st Thanksgiving game when the Birds just teed off and sacked him 11 times. They spoke about Houston's House of Pain. Houston brought through house, we brought the pain. I miss those days. It is too bad they never got a championship.

Reggie won a Super Bowl playing for the Packers.
