The name is not necessarily as bad for the Blackhawks. The team is named after a military unit which was in-turn named after an indian leader. They could also change the logo without much trouble. A black hawk is also a type of bird after all.

Redskins on the other hand. Not sure where you could go with that.

Too bad it's not a home and home Winter Classic/Heratige Classic with the Senators.

Now THAT I would love. I might even make the trip to Ottawa for the second half.

Just demolish the roof of the Verizon Center. Voila, outdoor game.

I looked up what happened to the Cap Centre. It's a shopping center now. They could play in the parking lot.

They could put a red skinned potato on their jersey and say they are named after them?

To me, a legit pond hockey game in Minnesota would involve drinking blackberry brandy or Windsor out of a flask the entire time (and possibly throwing up in a snowbank because of said drinking)

That's a sure way to get Ed Belfour out of retirement. That and a billion dollar contract.

Sounds like the Flyers will be the opponent for the Caps...

43, did you ever play at the 51 year old Baltimore arena? That place is certainly showing its age (glass fell out a couple of times during the game).

Its so nice that after the last game I went to there I decided not to attend this one.

Yes, I did play there, Had season tickets for the SkipJacks and Bandits, too. I even did a BMX Stunt show at halftime during a Blast (indoor Soccer) game.

What you saw on TV was the shined up pretty parts. My god, that place should be condemned. I am not sure I ever saw a game there in the last few years of the Bandits without some major failure of something in the building. Lights, scoreboards, entire concession stands, partitions. I seem to remember one game where the backup goalie had to hold the door at the bench shut because the latch mechanism must have fell off or broke. He sat there with his foot on it for half the game.

I won't even get into what it's like "behind the scenes". *shudder*

But still, it's the building that incubated my love for the game, and the place I met Gordie Howe... And Jon Casey.

Memorial Stadium was a (comparative) dump too, don't mean I didn't love it there. :D

You met Jon Casey? Let me guess, he was out wandering far from his crease, correct?

(Old North Stars joke from my childhood)

Yeah, really far.

They used to do these "Skate with the team" nights, and he always came out and skated. Not everyone did. Nice guy.

I became a pretty big fan, and will forever hate Mario Lemieux and the Penguins for crushing that nice young man's dream.

Actually met a bunch of players over the years. Most you never heard of. Like Slava Butsayev. I have like four autographed pucks from him. Not much of a conversationalist. I usually tried to seek out the goalies when I could. Dafoe, Hrivnak, Olie, Donnie B.

I think they are just having too many of these but that's JMHO and I agree with a couple of other posters. Please not the Pens AGAIN !! I don't want to hear about "star power" because if the event is so great people will watch it anyway.

Even non hockey fans watch them but sometimes you can have too much of a good thing and honestly, If the Pens are in this one again it will be the first one I do NOT watch.

No offense to the Pens fans here.

You're getting soft boss.....offend the bastiches!

I call bullshit again on this. The Capitals have already played in the Winter Classic. The state of Hockey Minnesota should have gotten the nod.

All day on NHL network they were saying that it "makes sense" to have the Pens be the opponent.

In four years, it will just be the same two teams playing outdoors in various places.

I love the Pens but how about letting us see some of the other teams in the NHL. Let a team like the Islanders (with Tavares) play on national TV.
