Was it a mistake to cut Parkey?

It was an understandable cut. Parkey doinks the field goal, then starts popping up on talk the shows the next day looking for celebrity and sympathy.

But I'm pretty certain between Parkey and the two guys fighting it out right now, Parkey is the best of the three. Looking back it just appears cutting Parkey was an emotional move with no backup plan in place. I'm starting to think maybe keeping Parkey and letting him fight for his job with the other 2 would have been the smarter move.

He would've been in a mental ward or stabbed to death by OTA's. The city would've eaten him alive.

He missed a lot of field goals by a few inches. A gust of wind goes his way a few weeks, and he looks great. It’s only a kicker though and I LOVE how the bears went about finding a new one. Parkey is average at best. Pineiro or Fry could be our next Robbie Gould. However, it depends on how Nagy can weight their preparation. Kicking in Chicago is no easy task. It requires a lot of extra practice. And I honestly think that could be what they are looking at.

Similar thoughts. It's a tough place to kick.

Parkey had one of the crazier kicker seasons ever. I mean, it had to be a record for hitting uprights??

I think more than that for me, as far as what I didn't like in him, is that he seemed to have a bundle of just random af, lame-duck short misses, including a few extra points if I'm not mistaken.

The Bears lost 4 games by how many combined points? Not many. Parkey can still be a good kicker, but I doubt it in Chicago. He can't afford the armed security.

It's not a mistake because after the crucial miss and then the way he went on national TV afterwards...they needed to move him out of the locker room.

Not doing a better job of replacing him to date.....that is gonna be the mistake.

The tv spot got him cut, it was not the right decision. All the money was guaranteed, they could have let him wait.

The fact he is still a free agent says a lot.

If we had not cut parkey, showing the double doink every day in practice would be a little bit awkward.

The fact we're still looking for a kicker also says a lot. How many teams in the NFL are actively looking for kickers anyway?

Are the Bears still "looking" or do they have a few in camp battling it out? Didn't one of the two in camp come from Oakland who must have also had 2 kickers in camp.

A quick look shows the Vikings, Pittsburgh, Bengals, Baltimore and our Bears have battles going for the place kicker position in camp.

Of course the Bears are still looking. They haven't settled anything. Just because we have 2 in camp doesn't mean we're settled in this position. Word is, neither of those guys are doing well. And in the end, whoever wins the job, i'd be surprised if he ends the season with better numbers than Parkey had last year.

Even when Robbie was here, we almost always provided "competition". Doesn't mean they're not settled bc these teams have multiple kicks "battling it out"

I was simply answering your question about how many teams were looking for a kicker, anyway. No clue why you asked that question.
