Walker heads to Adirondack

The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have loaned 6-4, 215-lb defenseman Matt Walker to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, for conditioning purposes, according to general manager Paul Holmgren. Walker is expected to be in action for the Phantoms tonight when they visit the Syracuse Crunch.

Walker, 30 (4/7/1980), has not appeared in a regular season game for the Flyers this season. He underwent surgery on October 20 to repair a torn labrum and bony impingement in his right hip. Walker appeared in four preseason games this year, scoring one goal and posting 10 PIM along with a minus-2 rating. He was acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning along with a fourth-round pick in exchange for Simon Gagne on July 19, 2010.

Recently, Walker and his wife Kate were the proud parents of a 6-lbs, 8-oz, baby girl named Georgia Isabel Walker, born on Thursday at Pennsylvania Hospital at 5:32 a.m. She is their first child. Everyone is doing fine.

Unless the sky caves in or a couple of guys (knock wood) go out with injuries, this scab will never crack our lineup.

He was solid in the preseason and actually threw a hit once in a while. Like a cleaner Denis Gauthier. I like him.

With the older guys getting fewer minutes, no real reason to take a day off here and there. Barring an injury, I don't see him playing.

Plus, they would have to fit him under the cap. He is a 1.7M hit, and they don't have enough space for Leighton as it is. I would hate to see them try to sneak Bartulis down and lose him. He is young, and cheap.

i like bartulis too.. i think he's a great 7th d-man.. and i really don't think he was the problem with the 3rd pair last year, unfortunately i think that was parent.. shame, i thought he was a fantastic 1 on 1 defender, just not a good positional guy
