OL and DL needs to be a focus EVERY year IMO. The offense and defense will only go as far as the trench guys will take them.

I know we haven't done so well in state the last couple of years with the top prospects. That should not change our philosophy of going after these guys HARD. The priorities for this class should be...

#1 Josh Sweat
#2 Tim Settle
#3 Ricky Deberry/Garrett Taylor
#4 Clelin Ferrell
#5 Darvin Taylor
#6 Austin Clark, Matt Burrell

I think we are in it for Sweat and Settle, but it will probably be a battle with the heavyweights for their services. Having former teammates helps some.

Deberry and Taylor who are teammates are long shots, but I believe they are interested.

I think we have a good shot at Ferrell and a very good shot at Taylor

Clark and Burrell are the only stud OL in the state this year. VA don't have many, so we need to get them when they are out there.

I would have def. thrown Simmons and Lewis in there, it doesn't seem like we are in it for them though.

I think we stand a good chance at landing Austin Clark....he seems like the VT type. VT also looking good early for Taylor, McClease, and Ferrell. I will be very dissapointed if we don't land at least 3 of the talented DT's and DE's available in VA for next years class.

I don't think we have yet but we don't have a whole lot of ILB talent in the system. I expect we will.

I think speed is a bit of a concern with Little but we will see how he camps. A lot if the talent in VA next year is 703, 804 and 540 so things should look up. However Franklin will be hitting NOVA really hard and he is ......shady.

It looks to me like we are actually finally going away from that. I think that was Newsome's thing.

It was also a "missed-on-our-OL-targets" thing too. It's not like that hasn't worked out for us, but it has put a strain on the TE position for sure. We lucked out with Cline. If he hadn't stepped in and started contributing right away, TE would be a huge hole for us... especially bad when trying to break in a new QB.

Malleck, Kline and Hodges next season should make for some fun options and unpredictable play calling and hopefully MUCH more efficient red zone numbers. We were two or three red zone conversions from finishing last season 11-2.

Wow, this is a really good thing. Short term, probably won't see much. But long term, could be a very good thing for VT football. I will be interested to see who the coaching staff would be. Williams (?) from Hampton and Morgan from OSmith would be great candidates.
