Would be awesome to get an early verbal, because I think it would affect other recruits, but it seems like he will take several official visits in the fall before deciding. Apparently he wants to enroll early, so at least we won't have to wait till signing day to find out.

If I remember right....i think it said somewhere recently that he stated he could decide shortly before his season started or not long into it. Oscar Smith's first game is in < a month.

I wouldn't put money on it as i bet he will get absolutely hounded for visits, but if any potential #1 prospect were to spurn the glitz and glamour programs to punch a time clock for the lunch pail then it would probably be him.

It is fairly easy for him to take an official to VT, so I am not getting my hopes up. But I can't imagine he would string us along if he wasn't serious about VT. Hopefully, we get a lucky bounce. Any idea what dates he will be making his official visits?

I would like to agree with you... but I've been following VT recruiting long enough to not be able to. Can't even begin to list the "lock to VT", let alone the "Heavy VT lean" recruits who ended up somewhere else.

... and from what I've read, Sweat isn't even in the "VT lean" category... yet.

I'm not trying to be negative, but I think a quick check of our recruiting battle record with these names will show we're doing about as well as our on-field record with the same list. Which is to say... not good.

Thought I read somewhere else that he was planning his VT visit for the GT game (Sept. 20) and his FSU visit was for their Notre Dame game (October 18). Not sure about the others.

Sweat did a chat thing on ESPN.com. Not too much news, but here are some interesting parts.

"I will probably announce my decision a week or two after my final official visit. I was thinking about announcing at The Under Armour All-America Game or at my school."

"Early playing time is definitely something I want to do. It's my goal. To be an freshman playing a lot. When I began the recruiting process, I wanted to be an SEC football player. I thought the level of competition would best prepare me for the NFL and people wouldn't question the level of competition I was playing against. I got that out of my mindset now. I think all the top schools prepare you, and if you play at a top school and have success -- people won't question your level of competition."

"Some schools definitely talk the Jadeveon Clwoney thing, and say I can be that type of player. Some schools say they need me to help them get to the next level and win the national championship. I do like the Jadeveon Clowney comparisons, but I really like schools telling me they think I can help get them over the top."

"My visit to Ohio State is when the Buckeyes play Virginia Tech."

He also mentioned his close relationship to Larry Johnson at OSU. Looks like FSU and OSU are going to be the tough ones to beat out.
