Someone didn't pay attention at the rookie symposium.

I don't feel bad for him, and I'm not preaching. If I earned 26 million in my early 20s and had his level of fame, I'm not so sure I'd still have 26 million by the time I was 30.

Just hope he enjoyed himself, and wasn't screwed by his advisers. If someone else enjoyed themselves with his money, then I'd feel a bit of pity for the guy.

This is a time to fall back on that Texas Degree and get yourself a cozy job at the corporate level of some firm and be their golfing teammate to bullshit, tell stories and help them wow potenial clients for big deals. It's that or open up a hot dog street vendor and sell his sausage.

This is so pathetic, I didn't even have the heart to post the Nelson laugh.

how hard is it to apply
50% to living expenses
30% to entertainment
20% to savings

do these athletes need people to feed them and wipe their ass too?

Start up a bad business or two and watch the money just float away. Just at a quick glance, starting up a food distribution company can eat up a couple million right off the top.

And as far as broke, this might not be as big a story as it seems.....I bet a lot of athletes can't come up with 1.7 million in cash. But if he still has a food company, probably a couple houses, to his name maybe he's not quite "broke"

He's on his own because some players either don't listen, are overly optimistic/unrealistic, and some push away help.

Players probably gloss or roll their eyes at the symposium. Believe that they're smarter and will continue to make money - after all they believe in themselves and it's hard to imagine losing a lot of money. If the NFL directly saved their money it would be wrong because it's not their money anymore. But if the NFL set up an option for it, there'd be plenty of people saying that the players don't need the NFL to be paternalistic. Plus, no one needs to trust the NFL. There may be much better savers in good investment decisions. Then, if nothing is done, they blow their money.

Oh well, hopefully it helped the economy by spending the money somewhere good. I'm sure a lot of it is to well-off companies, but that helps, too.
