Just wondering what you guy's and gal's think of their hockey coverage. Personalty I don't think it's that bad at all. I like Hockey Central and they talk HOCKEY.

I know some people don't like VS but I think the biggest beef is the availability.

Just looking for some feedback. Thanks

I've always said that I think the NHL owes Versus for being the only network willing to give the NHL a legitimate TV contract after the lockout. I think it would be a pretty shitty move to give ESPN an exclusive TV deal after the current one with Versus is up. I don't mind if games are on ESPN, but I do think that Versus should be the network with top priority and they should get the good games/top playoff match ups etc.

As for their coverage, it's every bit as good as ESPN's. The pxp might be a little lacking, but you have to keep in mind that Gary Thorne and Bill Clement did a very good job. None of the pxp people make me want to mute the TV though and that's really all that I ask.

It's OK, but I still miss ESPN2 and Melrose's hair.

But when ESPN did the games during the intermissions they would give the scores from other sports. Versus sticks to hockey.

I'd like to hear the Thorne - Clement duo doing games on VS, but otherwise I dig it.

Well, it's better than what I can recall of ESPN's coverage. Especially considering they actually have a post game show and don't just immediately cut away from the game the second that it ends.

I give them props. They've come a long way since they started covering hockey. They haven't tried too many new gimmicks ala Fox either.

Good point Ross. The other guys would cut away as soon as the final horn blew.

There trying to do more. They have more hockey games showing every week and they have that hockey central thing if I remember.

^This. I'd like to see games on ESPN, but I think VS should get first choice.

I've seen the NHL covered on several stations during my lifetime and I honestly feel that Versus really covers the sport and not just the game that's on and that is the most important distinction. Even if the NHL ends up being brought back to ESPN, I feel they should keep games on Versus as well. Set up the schedule so that big games are split up equally each week. The more exposure the better for the NHL.

I don't mind Versus. Though I like to stick to local broadcast for biased coverage, they get the job done. MSG used to suck big donkey schlong, but they have gotten much better... However now they cover Devs/Sabres/Piles... which is horse shit. I like NESN a lot too (and their women). I hope hockey doesn't go back to ESPN, they're fucking retarded.

edit: I have horrible manners, welcome to the board Null!

Versus is one of the few places I can go to watch hockey, so I'm not going to be overly critical. Plus, as Null mentioned previously, they actually cover HOCKEY not just the game that happens to be on. And it's nice to catch games in HD once in a while. In my opinion hockey is one of, if not the best sports to see in HD. I have FIOS, and since Cablevision refuses to give MSG HD to Verizon, I have to watch my Devils in standard definition.
