1973 should be Ohio State. They went 10-0-1 with their tie coming at the also undefeated Michigan team. Their next closest game was a 21 point win over your Trojans in the Rose Bowl. On the year, they outscored opponents 413-61.

Notre Dame did go undefeated with no ties, but the head to head makes it clear which team was better. The Irish only won by 9 at home against USC and they only beat Michigan State by four. OSU killed those teams by 21 and 35.

You can't punish OSU for tying the second best team in America on the road. They were the best team that year.
