Chris Lincecum had some nice quotes:

"Here's a two-time Cy Young winner, a four-time All-Star, a World Series champion, and send him to the minors?" Chris Lincecum said, his voice rising. "You do that, and what you're basically telling the player is, 'We don't need you or respect you.' And this is the kid who helped bring a championship to the city of San Francisco for the first time in over 50 years?

"It's like people forget what he's done. It's like, 'What the (expletive) do I have to do. What more do you want? I gave you two Cy Youngs. I was a major contributor to the World Series. And you crucify me now?' "

...

"You keep saying (expletive) like this, and he'll want to go away. This is the face of the franchise … and now that he's struggling, as all players do at some point, this is the (bleep) respect he gets? You're crucifying him.

"It's like the media is hoping he fails so they'll have something to write about. If they're trying to get him to leave that city, they're (bleeping) on their way."

They kept Zito in for a long time while he was the shits...

Zito was/is the 5th starter, someone has to be. We can't afford 2 5th starters.

Now that we're getting into the season the data is becoming meaningful. From pitchfx it appears the biggest difference in timmy this year over last is the tilt on his slider is nearly gone. The slider was timmy's highest valued pitch in 2011, now it's well into negative territory. I'd abandon it and start mixing in a lot more two-seamers. For timmy, the two-seamer bores into righthanders, so it could fit effectively into a mix of changeups, sliders away, high four-seamers, and curveballs on the plate. Skipping a start or two to effect this change makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately, Timmy has shown little control of the two-seamer throughout his career.

Lincecum says he needed to lose weight. He felt strong, pitching 217 innings and yielding a 2.74 ERA last season, but his knees were starting to get sore. His shins didn't feel right. He spent the offseason swimming and gave up In-N-Out Burger.

He now thinks he should have pitched more during the offseason. He was so concerned about his weight, he might have neglected the arm. He coughed up a 5.70 ERA and .326 batting average in spring training, and the stats were dismissed as meaningless. Yet when those struggles last 14 starts into a season, panic sets in.

It's nice when you can make radical changes like that because you know you've got a 40M guaranteed contract. It's asking too much for Chris Lincecum to be objective, but the flip side of the Giants and the fans being loyal to timmy, is for timmy to respect his obligation to be ready to pitch.

I'm sure Tim is doing the work to get right, but Chris needs to kill the protective daddy routine. The guy is an adult. He can fight his own battles. Plus, it never is a battle with the media. They have no idea what they are talking about. They are looking for inflammatory words to increase button clicks. Stop feeding the nonsense.

I agree re: Chris.

I asked the question a couple months back, and I am more and more falling into the camp that says "yes"...

Is he a Beauty Pageant Mom?

How many other MLBers (or NFLer or NBAer, for that matter) have daddy almost as well known as they are without daddy being Bobby Bonds, Ken Griffey, etc?

Shut the fuck up and let your All-World-Talent son live his life, already...

I haven't heard any talks from the Giants organization or Bay Area newsgroups that I haven't heard Timmy say himself. So, I'm not sure what the fuck Chris is getting so amped up about? In all reality, a few starts at triple-a may be a hug stress reliever for Timmy and get him back to CY Young caliber.

I'm not saying I would assign him there against his will -- because he's earned the right to figure it out in the big leagues -- but I'd give him the option to figure it out in the minors.

This right here is the key. I think is this sentence had been uttered by anyone on this board in the last 6 weeks, MSG would not have pulled out as much hair here as he undoubtedly has.

MSG, take notes...

Well yeah. I've never thought we should be forcing him down there, it just seemed like the smart thing for Tim himself to realize he could use, some no pressure starts to figure out his new game. While there's still time to get it right this year.

Who knows what these guys say to each other but I have to think that option has been brought up and since he ain't done it, he don't wanna.

I think he should really reconsider.

$64,000 question...

If Timmeh shits the bed tonight, is there ANY way the Giants can afford to send him out for his next start against the doggies?

I think they have no choice but to DL him due to his stubbed toe, or his strained back, or his migraine headache or because he slept on his eye wrong. They cannot afford to have a guaranteed loss against the doggies.

No way they DL him without a legit injury. They won't make something up. I think if they can move somebody up that would make sense, but I think the mostly likely thing is he takes his scheduled start regardless of what happens tonight. If timmy's struggles continue, they could skip his start in DC, and perhaps the next one so he gets a good long break to work on "things".

The guy weighed 150, and that's being generous, when he was drafted.
Didn't seem to affect his fastball/stuff too much then. Can you really look at a guy and say 'FUCK YOU, MAN! How dare you not eat shit food! You trying to be healthy tanked our season!'. People are simply looking at any reasons to find the 'answer' as to why he is sucking. Dude had thunder thighs last season, look at any video when he wore knee high pants. Some guys put weight on in the trunks vs the gut.

He spent the off season doing cardio, and swimming (you know, the exerciser that works every muscle in your body) and against a current to boot. The crap food was substituted for planned SQUARE MEALS.

Tim sucking pisses me off as much as all of you, but if fueling his body with filth is what it took (I promise you that's not the case. NO ONE, I repeat, NO ONE, is a better athlete on a fast food diet) then could you really condone him continuing that? And too think it was that.... silly.

Now the arm condition, oth, is all on him.
