So far the reports from New York are that Judge Richard Bremer has just finished with his questioning of the NFL attorneys. He's about to start with Jeffrey Kessler, the attorney for Tom Brady. He was immediately warned not to refer to any of the NFL's responses to his questions. He states that he did not want anything to go back and forth between the sides that could compromise a settlement.

Berman just stated that a person cannot be penalized for the actions of others. It appears that McNally is being thrown under the bus.

Berman just asked Kessler why Brady didn't cooperate.
Kessler said that TEXTS and Emails were given, the NFL refused to contact any of the people whose names were in Texts and emails.

As an aside, this guy Steven Brown was the only person allowed to have a phone in the proceeding. He had 2100 followers at 10:00 Am this morning, as of 5 minutes ago he has 26,000.

Word out of WEEI is that both sides are meeting with Judge Berman.

His main question to the NFL was "Why is Tom Brady being penalized?" "You've basically said that you have no direct evidence that he instructed anyone to tamper with the footballs."

According to Michael McCann the SI attorney and UNH Law Professor, the judge believes that the legitimacy of the entire deflategate episode is highly questionable.

He believes that a settlement is close and could be reached this afternoon.

Funny, as I was reading through the news stories surrounding Deflategate, I thought about one of my all time favorite sports movies, The Natural. I was struck by the fact that, in the movie, Max Mercy, the unscrupulous sportswriter played by Robert Duvall, went after Ray Hobbs to "protect this game". Sounds very much like Goodell, whose stated aim is to "protect the integrity of this game". I know I am a Patriots fan, but I still think the similarities are worth noting. Hopefully, Deflategate will end the way the movie did.
