Cowboy is NOT retiring. At this point, it is only Joyce, Welke, Hirschbeck and Davidson.
Outside of Davidson, those are pretty decent umps. MLB has had a bad day today.
I just assumed all the old hats got shown the broom.West is done as well? That is AWESOME!!
I had heard about Joyce and Balkin' Bob, but I hadn't heard about the Cowboy. Definitely good news, if it is true.
Actually I made that up. I just have a hard time hating James Joyce the umpire. On the other hand, the other James Joyce, the pretentious asshole that wrote "A Portrait of the Artist As A Young Man" and wasted hours of high school student's time--there's no love lost for him. I mean even the Cliff Notes were boring. Is Who your first and What your second?
You're dead to me.That is a little dramatic. I know a perfect game is rare but does anyone really remember the players who had perfect games? Don Larsen is one. I can think of other no hitters but can't remember which were perfect games. I mean the rest of his career is so forgettable it would be kind of like Mark Whiten hitting 4 homeruns in a game.
Is this the Armando Galaragga shit still?Today, MLB has announced that Jim Joyce is retiring.
Hope he has a nice, quiet life OUTside of baseball.
Yeah, I couldn't remember if it was a perfect game or just a no-hitter. (The one in the playoffs that was not a perfect game is way more memorable to me). I mean, a perfect game is a rare thing and a takes a great performance but unless you were related to the guy or were at the game I don't think someone missing out on one because of a bad call is that big of a deal. Steve Carlton never had a no-hitter, but I enjoyed watching his ten million 1 and 2 hitters even though he never closed the deal. You're dead to me.
You don't remember Doc's perfecto?
Now that he is retiring, he must venture into the Cursed Earth, like in Judge Dredd.#NeverForget

Isn't Galaragga more famous and unforgettable now because of the blown call than he would have been with a perfect game. And everyone knows that he threw one even if it's not in the record books.#NeverForget

Worse than this?Record books are all that matters, and they say that the Tigers have yet to throw one.
I joke about it now, but it really may have been the worst feeling I've ever had after a sporting event. Worse than the Red Wings or even Tigers losing in the championship finals.
Yeah, "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" was pretentious, but did you ever read "Ulysses"? It's the fucking bomb, yo. I know you're not much of a reader, but it's a must-readActually I made that up. I just have a hard time hating James Joyce the umpire.
