With 8 minutes left to go in the game Gruden decided to go for two to extend it to a 3 point lead. Here is why its a wrong call. First the time left in the game. 8 minutes is a shit load of time to get the ball back we actually got the ball back twice. So there was plenty of opportunity to score. 2nd you never take the point of the board when you are leading in a close game. The two point conversion should only be used when there is only one drive left in the game not 8 minutes. 3rd the play call for the 2 point try wasn't good at all. KC only had one option and he cut the field in half by rolling out. Crowder was covered so he had to throw the ball away.

From then on Gruden's play calling just shit the bed. We get lucky and get a pick from Breeland. Gruden decided to play it safe and takes the 3 points. None of his play calls were designed to score a TD to put the dagger into ATL. Played it safe and it cost us. If we kicked the extra point and scored the TD then Atl scores a TD we still have time with 3 timeouts to kick a GAME Winning FG. Its about winning games guys. IF Gruden doesn't trust KC to win the game in that situation then we have problems.

Grudens situational coaching and play calling does not sit well with me right now. We blew this game. I don't want to hear about the injuries. We should of won this game but I believe bad coaching had a big part of it yesterday.

Wrong there is 8 minutes left in the game. We were going to get at least one possession. We got two. If it was the last drive of the game I would agree with you but it wasn't. How doesn't 8 minutes left in the game affect the decision?

Agree with dad. Before they scored I said TD and go for two. Right decision. Rolling to the short side might not have been the best choice on the 2 point try.

Not with 8 minutes left to go. The time means something when attempting a 2 point try. That one point was huge.

Going for 2 was the right call. The play selection limited KC to half the field, so I question that.

We never convert two pt plays, why is that? But like I said in anoither thread I was calling for it too. With 8 minutes in a low scoring game it made sense to me.

it does make sense and the book says that is the right play only dean will whine about it

and taking the sack is dumb as well . if the route is executed as it should have been its incomplete at worst

taking the sack and making it 3rd and long is a recipe for disaster

you end up punting and falcons score

you still had 3rd down to get some yards and pin Atl deep in there territory. So you would rather force a throw and get a turnover? ok. lol. What book is this? Does the book determine when to go for 2 depending on the time left in the game? How is the time not a factor when you go for two?

This is one of those both sides have made excellent points type deals. Had the Skins went for an XP and hit it after Jones' TD. Its very possible Hopkins 52 yard FG attempt would've been for winning the game as opposed to tying it up, sending it to OT.

Speaking of Hopkins.............seems like all my reservations and total objections were completely unwarranted. Kid's been money.

Breed its situation football. You don't take the point of the score board in a close game. No one seems to get this. 8 minutes left warrants the decision to kick the XP.

again every coach in the nfl would have gone for 2 because it makes a TD to beat you

you are not considering the time left in the game. If its the last drive then its a different story. Time left matters in the decision. You are looking at it as a one possession game with 8 minutes left. That doesn't make sense to me.

No one seems to get this is a strong clue. 90% of the people I heard discuss this agree it was the right call and dad is right the book says he is right. You go for 2 so that if you get it you make the other team need a TD to beat you. If you are up 1 or 2 a field goal beats you. That is why pretty close to everyone agrees going for 2 was the right play.

I agree if its the last possession of the game. Time left means something. We were guaranteed another possession that is why I didn't like taking a point of the board.

it doesnt matter dean because if they scored you still had a possession to freaking counter that last drive which is exactly what happened

Dean... just take a deep breath, relax and let it go. Had we gone for one and lost by one, some one would be screaming we should have gone for two in this instance. You can second guess the call because we failed to convert. But that would make us one of 32 teams that has gone for it and failed and looked like goat fart the next day for it.

I understand your POV, Dean. I also understand the POV of the dad, Sportster, and Dave as well. The thing with your scenario Dean is that even if the Skins go for and make the XP. There's no guarantee that the Falcons don't make their 2 p conv (which they surely go for) after they score a TD and make it an 18-17 game in their favor. If that were happen instead of 19-19 at the end of reg. Its 20-20 after reg.

The bottom line for me is this. Gruden's playcalling in the Atl was and has been all season too conservative. I'm not saying I want KC to be Darryl "The Mad Bomber" Lamonica, but I'd like Gruden to open the offense up and see what KC can do.
