It's just fine now. You heard of the saying "If it's not broke don't fix it?"

Not only would this "new" system lessen the importance of the regular season, but it also buts that #1 seed on an even higher pedestal. Everyone else but them have to duke it out in another game against a pretty good opponent only to get more beat up while that #1 is getting more rested and healthy and diagnosing the other playoff team's schemes

I personally think the playoffs would benefit from the removal of both wild card teams. If I'm not mistaken, the purpose of the playoffs is to find the best team in the NFL. And I don't see how a team who isn't good enough to win their 4-team division can even be considered as the top team in the NFL. Yeah, I get the wild cards have been successful recently, that still doesn't make them the better team.

Then you could potentially have a 14 win team not make the playoffs just because the team ahead of them happened to go undefeated. How shitty would that be to have the second best team in the league not even make the playoffs

Just leave it alone. We don't need to turn the NFL into the NBA or NHL. Half the league makes the playoffs and that's a joke.

Because there are years when there are two dominant teams in one division. And there's still motivation to win the division, since you're guaranteed at least one home game.
