I don't mind it because we've seen 10-6 teams miss the playoffs and that's pretty lame.

Didn't a 7-9 team make the playoffs a few years back? I want to say it was the Cardinals, but I'm not sure.

It was the Seahawks in 2010. They won their division at 7-9.

I dont really think the who question is important in this scenario... Less than 20 years ago we had only 8 teams make the playoffs now we have 12... 14 teams will not hurt the integrity or change the playoffs much... It really only Hurts 2 teams and that is the number 2 seeds... everyone else really does not get affected much...

It's not about if it hurts teams. It's about the fact that the seventh best team in a conference has no right to a playoff berth.

Why not just make the playoff seeds be 1 through 24 and have a 2 game round robin with certain teams being able to lose a game and still be alive?

But the 6th does??? Not saying i am for this rule change, But it seems like your logic behind no is that you dont like change... But remember less than 20 years ago there was 8 teams in the playoffs... So it is not like change hasnt happened recently... and changing it to 7 teams does not affect it much...

Your logic is meaningless. With that same logic I could prove that there should be 40 of the 32 teams in the playoffs.

I wouldn't favor adding two more teams to the playoffs, since that would further diminish the importance of the regular season. It would generate more revenue, though, so I wouldn't be shocked of the league were to add playoff teams.

This is the same logic as to why I am against a college playoff system. Why should the 4th best cfb team have a shot at winning the title? Being number one and two at the end of the season means less now. Teams will only try to make the top four or however many teams would be in the playoff.

I think that the NFL is so different from college in terms of parity, however. In college ball I think that some sort of playoff system is necessary in order to have an informed idea of which team even is, say the "4th best cfb team".

LOL In other words you propose applying the NBA model to the NFL?

Except there are over 100 NCAA teams and 32 NFL ones.

THis plan does not affect the 3-6 teams at all... only the 1,2 and 7... and the one and 7 love this plan... Only the 2 is affected negatively in this plan, but if the 2 cant beat the 7 they didnt belong there anyway... So i am not really opposed to this, i just want to know if this plan is actually being talked about or just an idea from the OP...

Sorry for starting a thread then leaving for the day. I believe a plan like this has been proposed in the past couple of years, though I'm not sure if the specifics are exactly the same.

I don't have a problem with an 8-8 team making the playoffs. Another argument is the schedule. 25% of a teams schedule is playing a division from the other conference. In the case where you have a very strong division and a very weak division in one conference, the teams that play them from the other conference have an advantage or disadvantage over the other divisions.

It was the Seahawks in 2010. They won their division at 7-9.

And they won a playoff game that year. Point is there is so little difference between most teams. Why not give one more team a shot? It would certainly make for a fantastic weekend on my couch.

Because making the playoffs is supposed to be earned. It's not little league where everyone makes it.

14 out of 32 is "everyone"?

It's too many.

The arguments you guys have been using could just as easily claim that everyone should make it.
