Just for some clarification because I have seen "pass happy" and "throwing it all the time" mentioned numerous places on this board.

last seasons play selection breakdown Pass 325 Rush 361....so maybe just maybe he is calling the same exact plays but this year we have players who have matured in the system enough to run them effectively.

I absolutely agree there is more depth than in the past. We have lost key players on both sides of the ball with little noticeable effect on the outcome of the game. I think that is the very definition of depth. That has made a difference.

But I think some of the difference with this seasons success has been that Coach has stopped trying to make the team/players fit his schemes and game plan and is instead modifying his game plan to fit the his players skills. That has made a world of difference. You can see it in the way the players approach the game - they look like they are having fun out there, win or lose. I haven't seen a lot of that the past season and a half.

He is a much better head coach this season. I always felt he would grow into the job and could be a great coach for WV - and that is happening right before our eyes each and every weekend. Regardless of where this season winds up, the growth/progress I have seen in our team warrants giving him another season or 2 to see what develops.

I see Dana as less of a gambler and a much more conservative coach this year than in the past. It could be the result of having a better, deeper team, more confidence in the D, or Dana maturing as a HC. Probably a little bit of each. Calling the plays himself is a definite change for the good as that is what he does best.

Or we have not needed to gamble as much because the team has matured and has not put us in positions that we need to gamble. One thing I totally agree with you on is it is combination of things, people always want to look at one thing with coaching and say "it was that" but coaching a football team to success has so many variables it is hard to narrow it do just one thing.
