and granted he has provided plenty of ammunition, but 3 years $9 million for Colby friggin Armstrong and Burkie gets a free pass?!? Even with Versteeg, the Leafs look like they'll be giving the Bruins another high draft pick next season.

Seriously, I really don't understand the hard on for Burkie by the masses. Especially the Press whom he usually is a curmudgeonly old feck to.

After sleeping on it, I think that Sutter tried to get either Spezza or Savard, but Murray probably asked for Backlund, and Sutter wasn't willing to include him. As for Savard, there was no way he was going to waive his NTC to come to Calgary. Word is that Lombardi may be asking for close to $4 million per season, which is ludicrous. Jokinen at 5.5 million per season was bad, but Jokinen at $3 million is not terrible.

Flames top six forwards are (in my opinion)

Tanguay - Stajan - Iginla
Bourque - Jokinen - Hagman

There is skill there, but can they produce goals?!? Sutter's job depends on it.

I read on the Herald that Jokinen was a insurance policy just in case Langkow can't make it all the way back from the freak puck incident. If Langkow can make a full comeback, then Calgary has a decent top 7 forwards (skill wise anyway).

I would like to see Lanks make it back, but if he can't, the LTIR option would free up some much needed cap space later in the season.

He always provides good soundbites. As a reporter, that's pretty much all you can ask for. Also, if you piss him off he will not only shut you off from those soundbites, but may publicly flog you to the other press as well. And he's pretty darned good at that.

Calgary's moves are just an easy target right now, in terms of storylines. Out of respect for dash, I won't pile on :p

I really like the moves that the Nucks have made this season. If Luongo doesn't have a complete meltdown, next year might be the year for the Canucks.

Me too. Gillis has identified the area he wanted to improve, and just went out and did it.
There's room to improve still on the 2nd or 3rd line, but with a for sale tag on Bieksa, that might get done too.

Yeah, if you guys can get rid of Bieksa and trade him for a legit 3rd liner or B-2nd liner that would be ideal. Or just dump him outright for a bag of pucks somehow and sign Matthew Lombardi and you guys would be damn tough.
