The great Boston OF of Burks, Greenwell, and whoever was in right. (Plaintier?) For some reason the hatred of Boston players just wasn't there for that group that came up in the late 80s early 90s, IMO. Mo Vaughn was different story though.

this is surprisingly close... Burks has the better OBP, slugging%, and of course OPS(but all are semi close)... Burks has a better HR/AB%... Burks has the best one season...

But you have to give it to beltran for these 2 reasons... He was a better defender, and he played significantly more games in the same amount of years...

And no I am not mentioning SB, I don't think they are very important for a player that should not be slotted one or two in the lineup...

As a Giants fan, my homerism falls strong on Burks. He was a great Giant. Beltran, however, was not. When he came over, he played horrible, went on the DL, and when got back the Giants were already out of it. That is when he went off and put up all his great numbers. Hollow. Not to mention he cost us Wheeler.

But the unbiased (with my non-Giants bias, at least) says this has to go to Beltran. Burks best numbers were put up in Colorado. Hard to reward a guy for his best seasons when they came there.

Name a player who's done more PEDs than Carlos Beltran. Bet you can't name many.

In all fairness, although the Giants were struggling at the time Beltran came back, they were just 1.5 games out of 1st place on Aug 23 (the day of his return from the DL).

Hitting-wise, they're quite close, but Beltran provided much more value all around given he was a terrific baserunner and basestealer and was much better in the field up until his legs started to go in his early 30s.

Dwight Evans was still a pretty darn good RF in 87-89. His defense wasn't the same, but he was still one of the best hitters in the AL, and was putting up some of the best offensive seasons of his career. Evans had a very unusual career path, coming up as a great defensive OF with a decent bat. His defense declined, but he blossomed into a great hitter.
