Even ARod is a good nom. I won’t vote for him, but I am ok if he gets placed. He was an absolute beast.

ott is a weird case for me... i know MVPs are not the best standard... especially back in the day.... MVP voters were voted based on BA,HR, RBI, and by team...

but is that the only reason Ott, really never had any MVP love?? only top 5 3 times... and remember there was only 8 teams... so who who cares about top 10....

i guess with no CY award, pitchers are in the running too which made it harder... but still

Feels like this might be ARod’s spot finally, I hope Kershaw gets the last spot at 30

Take 1936, which could be argued was Ott's best season. He finished 6th in voting that year. The guy who got it was Carl Hubbell. The 2nd place vote getter was Dizzy Dean. The next three were all hitters (Billy Herman, Joe Medwick and Paul Waner). None of those three had a better season than Ott. By measure of WAR, if you accept the WAR calculations for pitchers, especially back then, Dean was not as valuable as Ott but Hubbell was better. If you think that WAR is overrated for pitchers in that era, it could be argued that Ott should have been MVP that year.

Still WAY early, but this one is not looking close.

Not certain ARod got enough converts to get over the hump, though. If this does go to another runoff, and Bench is the opponent, I think the “hate” for catchers may be stronger than the “hate” for ARod, though.

If 4 more voters come in and vote for anyone but ARod, then we'll have another runoff. But that of voters showing up with just 1.5 hours left to vote.
