We should do some sort of playoff with this, have like the top 16 backs of all time and pit them against each other and vote and discuss...
Would be fun but for me the no doubt top 3 are Brown, Sweetness and Sanders in some order. The 4th guy would be more fun to discuss and argue.
That wasn't the case. Once Brees had surgery on his throwing shoulder (torn labrum), it wasn't clear if he would ever be the same.Off topic, but I cry every day thinking about the fact that we let Drew Brees go because we were comfortable with Rivers.

SD offered him 5yrs 50mil but only 2mil was guaranteed the first year and the rest was based on performance incentives due to not seeing him play a full season after surgery. Brees said fuck that and demanded top 5 QB money.
Chargers refused and then NO offered 10mil first year and a 12mil option the following year.
He himself not knowing if he would fully return to form, did the smart thing. He went for more guaranteed money.
...So we were more comfortable with Rivers. Could have made a counter offer. Didn't. Brees Superbowls: 1. Rivers: nil
I know the entire back story, and I'm not saying the Bolts made a dumb decision at the time. I'm just saying regardless, we let a much better quarterback slip through our fingers.
IMO Brees wouldn't be the same player that he became in NO if he had stayed in SD. Unless the Chargers built a dome and hired Payton.
