The ironic thing is that any team in any game can play the coulda, shoulda, woulda game. Yeah, Ohio State got bogged down in the red zone and had to take field goals. But really 10 of Ohio State's points resulted from two broken coverages of Clemson letting Dobbins rack off big runs. Clemson also dropped two easy picks within OSU's 20 yard line, one a guaranteed pick 6. Clemson also had a missed field goal and would have stopped another Ohio State drive had Munford not gotten away with holding Xavier Thomas. Flip those 5 plays and we have a 46-10 ball game. That's how football works. It comes down to key plays and the better team capitalizes on more of those plays. Clemson was the better team, and deserved the W.

As far as the actual penalties. Obviously, it was targeting. Even Ohio State fans admit it was a penalty but complain about the rule itself. I think that's fair, but it's not up to the refs to selectively call penalties. They enforce the rules and Ohio State clearly targeted Lawrence. I'm not even going to address the roughing the kicker, because only idiots would say that wasn't a penalty. As far as the incompletion/fumble, I agree that the refs handled it the wrong way. At full speed, everyone agreed that it was an incompletion. It takes 1/4 of a second and there's no football move. The issue was that the refs let the play go on. They knew it was an incompletion, but there was not indisputable video evidence that it was definitely not a fumble. The refs arrived at the right result but did it improperly. That said, the error was harmless, because Ohio State's offense could not sustain any drives after the first quarter. They got one touchdown in the last 3 quarters, that just so happened to come right after this because of the good field position.

Ohio State couldn't make the plays that mattered, and so they were the worse team on that night.
The call may have been correct, but was it called evenly?

Anyone who thinks Clemson was the better team that night didn't watch the game. Sorry dude, you guys were lucky as holy hell to win that one.

:pound:

Well I watched the game & let me tell you why I don't think Ohio State was the better team. After going up 16-0 they got outscored 29-7. Nothing else needs to be said.

I'm a diehard Buckeye fan & went to multiple games every year from '84 to '05. But I won't say crazy stuff like Ohio State was the better team. Because they weren't.

Lucky as hell? Get the hell outta here. It's not like Clemson won the game on a hail mary. And if Ohio State was the better team they wouldn't have had to settle for 3 FG's in the red zone.

@MAIZEandBLUE09

Hey get your crazy overly homeristic ass back in this thread & tell me again how Ohio State can't win big games. Ryan Day: 5-1 vs. ranked teams this year. JH: 2-3 (and could drop to 2-4 if they loose to Bama). One more thing about winning big games. Jimmy Jam's 0-5 vs. Ohio State.

I hope you gotta custom pair of meeeechegan homer goggles you can super glue to your head for the holidays.

And that's fine. If that's what you think, so be it. It was an extremely close game where OSU was the better team who beat themselves multiple times and it cost them in the end.

So you're saying I was incorrect saying Ohio State got outscored 29-7 after being up 16-0 & had to settle for 3 FG's in the red zone?

I've grown tired of this conversation, so I'll just leave it at this: There have been tons and tons of times where college football teams have been pissed about officiating in games their teams have lost. There aren't many times I can ever recall where multiple officiating experts and tons of sports analysts from coast to coast who have NOTHING to do with either team playing the game chime in and rip the officiating staff apart.

It's possible that OSU shot themselves in the foot multiple times AND got screwed over on multiple calls/missed calls in a game. We saw it happen.

Happy New Year everybody. Even you, @michaeljordan_fan

That's cool and all but the only thing anyone is going to remember is the final score 29 - 23

That's fine and you can say that, but anyone who watched the game and gives a crap knows otherwise. Can't excuse the trips to the redzone that ended in FGs, but Clemson probably loses if the officials don't intervene. You now face a team that will likely have those calls go their way.. and you're playing them at home. Also, Trevor Lawrence leaves me with more questions than answers every time I see him play. It's like he's pulling a Baker Mayfield.. but a year too soon.

That's the thing, no one but Buckeyes care anymore. Everyone else enjoyed a great game and is ready for the biggest game of the year come the 13th

Yet you guys keep starting threads like this and posting in them. That is really odd, if you don't care.

No, Clemson fans enjoyed being bailed out and there was really nothing all that great about that game.
