That's a sign of mental toughness that will bode well for Newk down the line. A lot of young pitchers would have completely imploded after that first inning.

Maybe he's been having some conversations with Tom Glavine who was notorious for having first inning struggles.

Nats are gonna get a big enough lead that their BP can't blow all because Newcomb decided to walk the first two batters of an inning for the second time this game.

Even if you're a rookie, I'll never excuse walks. Throw strikes.

Amazing got out of that giving up only 1 run with terrible walks to start inning

Could have been a lot worse.

Extremely lucky we only gave up 1 run. We were about an inch away from that hit being a 3 run homer, and even then, I don't know how they didn't get two on that hit.
