It was payback or Karma for a Raider/Pat's game in the 70's. Also I will never like the raiders because of Jack Tatum. Paralyzes Darryl Stingley and can't call him, send him a card or even visit him in the hospital. He never said 1 word to Darryl before he died, yet wrote a book called 'They call me Assassin" biggest POS ever in the game

It was implemented throughout that season, including for the Jets against the Patriots earlier in the year. The rule remained in place and continued to be enforced for many years following that season.
