Recovering from a severely broken jaw from a sleep apnea injury. OUCH.

How does one get injured from sleep apnea?

I was of the understanding that with apnea you don't get enough sleep due to snoring or you stop breathing and your body gasps for air periodically. Both keep you from going REM, therefore you toss and turn and don't get a good rest.

Did he roll out of bed?

Break his jaw in four places to increase his airway? :omg: :bolt:

I had a heart attack this last spring and when I was in the hospital they had me on a oxygen monitor. Evidently I have sleep apnea too. It would go off every time I started to drop off to sleep. Drove me freakin' nuts and the nurses too.
They wanted me to go to a specialist for it but I'll be paying for the heart attack for the rest of my life so that ain't happening soon. And they sure as hell aren't breaking my jaw. I didn't have a choice about my ribs but I do about that.

They told me you put on a mask and it blows air down your throat. I couldn't handle that.

I also had a heart attack years ago caused by taking double prescribed anti-inflammatory meds after a major knee surgery - not my fault as I had two Doctors working at two different hospitals not knowing what the other had prescribed. Now, after taking Methadone for years, I have an irregular heartbeat and a pacemaker (I was taken off Methadone cold turkey and it almost killed me as my heart went haywire). Later, I was told to use a cpap machine for sleep apnea and I forced myself into using it every night. I got used to the air being forced into my nose, and my sleep is much better as I am well rested in the morning. I have two friends who refuse to use the machine and they have heart problems - I tell them that they need to and are taking a big risk. The machine really is not a big deal if you surrender to it from the start - however, most nights I can't fall asleep until I'm extremely exhausted because of chronic pain - so I unfortunately have been taking Ambien along with major doses of Percocet. I really hope you retry the cpap if you still have it.

Hey....you should feel very blessed to come out of a heart attack and still be able to watch the Huskets.

I had no idea that happened to you......take care of yourself sir.

I need a cpap and my insurance won't cover it. Those who have one and don't use it can send the damn thing to me.

I don't think that is what caused me my heart attack. I just did as I pleased without any thought about what I was doing to my body.

I am 6' and went into the hospital at 280 pounds. That was May 10th. I am 240 now and dropping. My weight when I was in good shape hovered around 200.

I smoked a pack a day and drank bourbon (and coke) every night, ate as I pleased to include a lot of fried foods and salt and exercised very little.

I haven't smoked a cigarette since May 1oth and now walk 2-3 miles a day. I have cut out all fried and processed foods and quit the drinking until the week of July 4th which I drank lite beer. I'll have a couple lite beers a few times a week now.

I probably would sleep better if I did the CPAP but I can't blame the heart attack on that. I actually think the apnea is getting better as I lose weight.

P.S. I will admit I miss Evan badly. The rest has been easy though.

Yeah, I didn't say much about it. It freaked me out I will tell you that. Mortality smacks you right in the face.

I hope you don't take me wrong but you remind me a lot of how I was when I was young. Take care of your self now and it's a lot easier when your older. I'm 52 and just realizing that.

And I do feel very blessed to be able to watch my Huskers ... and my grand baby.
