We have the best TE in football with Gronk.
Seems we might have the best duo with the addition of Chandler.
These are our TE's
Scott Chandler TE 6' 7" 260, Fred Davis TE 6' 4" 247, A.J. Derby TE 6' 4", Rob Gronkowski TE 6' 6" 265 Michael Hoomanawanui TE 6' 4" 260, Jimmay Mundine TE 6' 2" 240, Logan Stokes

Wait, don't forget our 3rd rounder listed as DE:
Jake Bequette DE 6' 5" 265
A powerful lineman that should make a strong blocker - bumped Tim Wright.....

Maybe BB is going to have McDaniels include more 3 TE sets, eh? Gronkowski, Chandler and Davis (if he's got anything left) all out there at the same time would be pretty comical to see. A linebackers nightmare.

An article from 2009:
"Notably, the Patriots used the three tight end set for a series in the last regular season game in 2007 against the New York Giants. The offensive coordinator for New England at that time, Josh McDaniels, now coaches Denver and has many tight ends to play with."
Three Tight End Offensive Formation magic 3

"We generally think of a three-tight end formation as a running formation. But the Patriots are unpredictable when they switch to a three-tight end package."

Fred Davis cut. We are starting to narrow down the candidates. Still have to sign the practice squad.

Jake Bequette has been mentioned as PC eligible. He adds diversity.
I think Belichick likes him and he has a chance to make the team.
He is very athletic, smart, and adds diversity......

Davis being cut shocks me too. No Wright, no Davis. Looks like Bequette is getting that spot. I thought Wright and Davis played more of that move TE.

We have half the good TE's in football. Something has to give. Bequette has a chance to make the roster behind Gronk and Chandler. We stiil do not know what the rookies have. Most of our TE cuts will make a roster, if not ours.....

Stokes is gone. We have
Gronk, Chandler, Hoomanawanui
Derby, Mundine
Bequette
We are not keeping 6, does Bequette count as TE or DE?

Bequette is clearly a TE now. I believe BB stated this himself. I agree, 4 will make it. So far I have Gronk, Chandler, Hooman. I think Darby will go to the PS. So basically I think it's Bequettes job to lose.

I think you are spot-on.
Derby is intriguing but not near ready. Great place on the PS to develop. Can QB on PS also......
Strengths
Big, physical and fast. Athletic in space with ability to create some separation out of breaks. Has speed after catch in open field. Posted impressive 54-yard touchdown catch and run against Alabama secondary that struggled to catch him. Can line up all over the field. Natural pass-catcher. Had only one drop during 2014 season. Showed willingness to catch throws over the middle and take the punishment. Unique perspective after playing quarterback and linebacker before move to tight end. Ability to add roster depth at two positions as emergency quarterback. Comes from football bloodlines. Father and uncle had stops in the NFL and his brother lettered at Iowa.
Weaknesses
Has only one year of tight end experience. Routes have very little polish to them. He needs time to learn the nuances of position. Run blocking very much a work in progress. Uses poor hand placement and fails to sustain blocks when in-line. Balance at contact needs to improve when blocking in spaces. Has habit of using one rather than two hands for difficult catches. Was unable to play in final game (Texas Bowl) due to knee injury and continues to heal.

I'm hopeful to see a more consistent running game as a result... the running game was anemic at times (when not playing the Colts). Hopefully they can get a bit more production against the better defenses in the league with more two TE sets. All these guys are pretty massive.

Before all this deflatgate crap I was right with you. But now I want to see Bardy air it out all day long. But would be nice with a running game. Hoping Lewis shows up as a 3rd down back and can stay healthy.

The best tight ends in football will help. So will the improved O-line. Our run blocking will be better all around and we won't be starting with Ridley dancing around in the backfield......

He is going to have all day to throw the ball and our young receivers have time under their belt.

I'm thinking we're looking at a whole new style of NE football this year. The semi-new offense with an aggressive blitzing D to help the DBs. Should make for some exciting Sunday's. We're onto Pittsburgh.
