I know it's not over quite yet but things aren't exactly looking too stellar at the moment. I'm actually a little surprised that I'm not just 'totally bummed' right now. Not happy, but not crushed either. Maybe because:

1. We have the NL Batting Title
2. We problably have the NL MVP
3. CINN is really tough and these haven't been heart wrenching losses and I actually think WAS is tougher!.
4. I don't really believe this series was all about breaks. CINN didn't beat us with breaks. They played very well and we didn't. Our pitching was spotty and offense non-existant.
5. There are still 3 games that could possibly be played. Still alive, if only barely.

Still confused by yesterday's move with Lincecum. Could have used Zeets there and held Timmay out for either game 3 or game 4. Rather Timmay and Tron scheduled for 3 and a possible 4 with Cain ready for 5 if the gods so wish

If Tron gets us through game 3 I think they will have to go with Zeets in game 4. Just can't see Cain pitching in that bandbox on three days rest

Good points.

It's not over but the fat lady is walking to the microphone right this second.

Putting aside the real reason we lost these games (SSS randomness, these 2 games don't exemplify how good we truly are), I wonder if clinching so early was a factor? We had no real tension in our games the last 3 weeks of the season.

Yeah, it was a rough weekend of baseball. The first game pissed me off because we kept hitting rockets at people and they kept getting caught. However, last night was just a shit show from start to finish. Gotta tip your cap to the Reds, they've played excellent baseball all the way around.

That said, the Giants aren't dead yet and they got Vogey on the hill on Tuesday. Hopefully the Reds scoring 9 runs will piss off the boys in Orange and Black and get some piss and vinegar running through them. They'll need every bit of it if they're going to come back from being down 2-0. Regardless, I'll keep hoping and watching until our boys are eliminated.

I'm still really pissed off about Saturday and Sunday, but 2010 does make it easier. I was beginning to think that I wasn't going to see a championship ever (I only follow the Sharks and the Giants.....I'm a fake/fairweather 49er fan).

If they do get this far, I think that Game 4 will be Timmy (if his arm isn't gassed) and then game 5 would be Cain.

EDIT: as for msg, see post #170 in the gdt. :heh:

Oh yeah, it's ALWAYS the Dodgers' fault, agreed.

Yeah. I thought about that as well. In 2010 we were fighting till the very last day. We entered the playoffs having played the last 10 games or so under some pretty intensive pressure. I also agree that these last two games do not reflect just how good this team really is. I think any team has the ability to go 'flat' at any time. I think we did and the Reds also stepped it up a notch at the same time. Very bad mix for us.
I still remember the year that AZ entered the playoff with Schillling and Johnson losing games 1 and 2 by scores of 2-1 and 1-0. They went out in 3 that year. If that same scenario happened to us (games 1 and 2) I most likely would have 'forceably retired' some furniture or glassware in the house. Also would have been on the wife's 'shitlist' ... and pretty high up on that list.

Wait, are you telling me that there's a way OFF that list???

Even if it were 1-1 right now, I would not like our chances. I think it's one of baseball truisms that any pitcher who is "on" will dominate any lineup. Bronson Arroyo pitched the game of his life last night. And because he did, the Giants chances now are pretty much zero.

As for timmy, no one really trusts timmy to come up big in a start, this year, and in this series. Putting him in the bulllpen was the right move, not only for this series, but in sending him a message for the rest of his career. And, if my reading of the Monday morning reaction in the press is correct, it appears the rest of the baseball world agrees with the move.

I go with Strong, Zito, and Cain in the final three games. With Timmy ready to come in to any of those games.

We were unlucky in the first game, but in the second game, the Reds just demolished us like we were the Buffalo Bills defense.

I am not too down, either. It's probably because we won the WS just 2 years ago and regardless of what happens the rest of the postseason, this was still a great year for us. Sellout streak still going strong, beat out the Dodgers, Buster a possible MVP, and the further development of Belt and Crawford. There must be a lot of other positives that you guys can think of.

If they get swept, I can wear my Giants gear again without looking like a front runner.

We didn't spend 263M at the 11th hour only to finish out of the running ....

We should have pretty much the whole team back next year, with only LF in doubt (Melky?), and perhaps the pen (Wilson?)

Hey Filo,

Doesn't this remind you of a Sharks playoff game. The Giants can't get a single break/ lucky bounce.

yeah, the first game did where the Giants were hitting rockets everywhere and they were getting caught and the Reds got a couple dinks and dunks. That said, game 2 was just an old fashioned ass-whooping. At least I know the Giants have heart and are led by good leaders. The Sharks.....not so much. :(

<Insert pantshatting comment here>

I agree that the Reds have just looked better this series, which is funny because after their ace gets hurt in the first inning of the first game I thought that that was an omen of things to come...

We're totally inside Bochy's head now. He named Zito as his game four starter today, with timmy still slated for the bullpen. In the end, he set up his rotation exactly like I would have/did.
