We def need to fix the red zone problems. Getting field goals like we have been wont work in the playoffs. Either way we still are avg. 24 points a game which is not too shabby.

You know, I've thought about it now. The Williams TD wasn't really a Smith thing, it was a Williams thing. The Davis drop wasn't Alex's fault. These two cancel each other out (not that I was claiming that Smith should have both per se). It's a bit greedy to give him both. 142.3 is good by me.

not to take anything away from kyle, the run was really nice, but i don't want to undersell smith here either. had that been a back shoulder throw, high, or anything but in stride and leading to the inside, it would not have gone for 6. much like the pass crabtree dropped that probably would have gone for a TD early on, smith recognized the defense, saw the seam, and led his receiver perfectly. he allowed williams to use his speed and toughness to exploit the seam and while kyle did most of the work, without a perfect throw, he would not have had the chance to do so.

its almost like JH believes our defense and special teams are enough to beat teams like the rams so why show something other teams can study on film

I absolutely believe this. While on one hand you could say that there have been some crucial moments this year where the Niners could have used some additional creativity or offensive looks, the fact is that the division has been all but wrapped up since week 5 or 6.

Like I said in the game thread yesterday, it felt like the three-play combination in the 2nd half - end around to Ginn, reverse to Delanie, then play-action deep to Crabs - was something special cooked up in Roman's lab and held until the Niners needed to move the ball, just such a clever sequence of plays. Seemed like the offense was so stagnant in the first half they felt like they needed to open up a bit and remind the team that they can move the ball.

Lots of guys on the offense have alluded to it this year in interviews, that there is a LOT they have practiced but not put into game action yet. We've seen a few flashes of creativity, certainly enough to convince me there's a lot more up their sleevel.

Sometime they get a little too cute tho, especially down in the red zone. Like with the wildcat formation on 3rd down yesterday.

Damnit, vvoland! I was trying to feel better about the Davis drop. Now you just got me back to square one!

Yeah, I hated that play. No idea why you would take the ball out of your QB's hands in that situation. If it was second down, maybe. On third down, it just seemed doomed to fail.

Im surprised we actually got the wildcat play off without a flag. That seems to be what usually happens when we run that garbage.

I wish the wildcat fad had never started. It never works anymore..or at least it seems like it doesnt. And unless youre putting a speedy little second string QB in or a RB who can actually throw the ball you know thats it gonna be a run around the end every time.

I despise the wildcat formation.

V, you might be talking about a different play here - That TD was pretty much ALL Williams. The route was a simple stop/dig so there was no hitting anyone in stride. Smith did his part by correctly reading the D and putting the ball in Kyle's hands.

However, Williams explosion off the line drove an already soft corner deeper and as soon as the CB turned his shoulders Williams pulled up and Smith hit a stationary Williams in the hands. Kyle circled back a yard to get inside the CB, then just flat out-ran everybody. (With the exception of Bo who caught him in the tunnel.)

Phew! My rationalization for the why the Davis drop is just mildly irritating is restored!! (I say this because I hate when people keep pointing out Smith's low TD numbers - he's had 4-5 dropped or taken away due to penalty this year. I know, I know, other QBs have some too, but it would it kill us to be the lucky one?)
