I agree that on paper it would definitely look like this game comes down to Nebraska's Defense being able to slow down Michigan's Offense......

I'm going against all logic when I say that I think it will end up being exactly the opposite, but I really think it will.

I just think that Michigan's Defense has the kind of athletes that Ohio State's Defense had, and this will test our Offensive Line and Taylor's ability to make decisions throughout the game......

I really think we are going to be able to force Denard Robinson sideways just as we did Kain Colter........yea Robinson is faster than Colter, but he by no means is a shifty runner or anything. Fill the gaps, force him sideways, give LBs and DBs a chance to help gang tackle.........and that is the recipe to stopping both Colter and Robinson.

I think we will carry last week's Defensive performance over into this week.

Nitpick Alert! :bounce:

UMass is actually in the MAC.

Jeff Sagarin has them ranked 208. Behind many many FCS schools. It would be interesting to see the rankings of the computer geeks who also rank Div 2 and 3. Perhaps there might be a Division 2 team ahead of UMass. :drum:

Jeff Sagarin has Idaho State ranked 232. :ohwell:

Fair enough.

I keep forgetting they moved to FBS considering the NCAA doesn't provide their team stats.

Yeah OK. Michigan "has the kind of athletes Ohio St has". I'll buy that.

Think the way you want, but Nebraska put 38 pts on Ohio St's defense.
The Huskers had 223 Rushing Yards @ nearly 5 YPC. Unfortunately tOSU had 371 @ 7.7 ypc. Mobile Miller was responsible for 186 of those Rushing Yards.
NU scored 24 first-half points on the road.
NU had 214 Passing Yards to Ohio St's 127.
NU thru 3 INT's and had 1 lost fumble to tOSU's "0" INT's and 1 lost fumble.

Ohio St's defense entered that game with the nations 19th Rushing Defense and left the game at 35th.
Michigan enters this game with the nations 49th Rushing Defense.
Nebraska's Rushing Offense is 6th in the nation.

It wasn't Ohio St's defense that clobbered Nebraska.

Similar to tOSU game, this game is about...

1. Containing a "mobile" Robinson that generates Michigans yardage.
2. Limiting turnovers
3. Punting

Failure in #'s 2 and 3 account for giving opponents the short field. ie..Scores

Minus the turnovers, I'll take those NU's offensive #s against tOSU defense all day, every day.

That's called :charlie:

As any intelligent coach would do with NU's turnover issues, I'm hoping Pelini has throttled Beck back in his offensive play calling. Cut the high risk shit unless it's absolutely necessary.
The O-line does not pass block well, and Taylor makes some bad throwing decisions and/or fumbles when sacked.
Do not give Michigan cheap turnovers and the short field.

Do what you do best, and that's pound the rock.

The only reason I brought up how Michigan has the athletes that tOSU has is because tOSU forced Taylor to turn the ball over 4 times and that was the reason the scoreboard looked the way it did.

I wasn't saying their Defense will shut down our Offense, I was saying that I'm concerned their athletes will make plays on the ball and turn our Offense over, translating into point swings.

Besides, thee only reason we scored 38 on tOSU is because tOSU scored 63 on us...........

In other words, they kicked off 9 times to us from their scores alone......we better turn some of those into points dadburnit!

tOSU offense scored 49 pts total.

42 of those 49 pts were Rushing.

Between Miller (186), Hyde (140), and Smith (38) they accounted for 364 Rushing Yards.

Their 42 rushing points (6 TD's), short field or not, were enough to beat Nebraska.

If you compare michigans talent at 2 deep to tOSU's, tOSU definitely has the edge there.

I've crunched the numbers.

Well if we don't have to worry about Michigan's Defense, then we're going to pound the fuck out of them..........because our Defense isn't going to give Robinson a chance to do shit.

Do that and

Don't turn the ball over.
Don't shank punts.
Intercept the balls that hit NU's DB's in the hands.

Game Nebraska

We gotta be due for a clean game here soon......

We have too many veterans on Offense to keep making the same dumb mistakes. I just worry that Taylor still has the inability to see defenders at times........

On that 2nd to last drive against Northwestern, he threw those 2 passes (both which should have been picked off) back-to-back, and on both of them it was evident that he didn't even see defenders underneath.

Reminded me of some of those passes he threw against Wisconsin last year........and Ohio State this year.......

LOL..I doubt that. You really think they can fix the issues in 7 days?

I do believe they can (and have) improved on some things somewhat. The ST's screwed them against N'Western.
Some of the issues are recurring tho. Playing this game at home should help some.

2012 (2 road losses UCLA/tOSU) 1 Blowout

Rushing Defense 90th
Turnover Margin 110th
Scoring Defense 71
Sacks Allowed 76th
Net Punting 84th

2011 (3 road losses Wisconsin/Michigan/S. Carolina. All blowouts) 1 home loss N'Western

Rushing Defense 64th
Turnover Margin 67th
Scoring Defense 42nd
Sacks Allowed 47th
Net Punting 27th

2010 (3 road losses Tex A&M/Oklahoma CCG/Washington 'bowl') 1 home loss Texas. None of those losses were blowouts.

Rushing Defense 63rd
Turnover Margin 62nd
Scoring Defense 9th
Sacks Allowed 70th
Net Punting 35th

What scares me is NU lost 3 of their last 4 in 2010 and 3 of their last 5 in 2011. Did they just wear out, lose interest, what?

One would hope

Taylor was in a tough predicament late in the game. However, going foreward I feel Beck should get conservative (run it). His pass protection is shit.

Reminded me of some of those passes he threw against Wisconsin last year........and Ohio State this year.......

The 2 "veterans" (seniors) most responsible for the 90th ranked Rushing Defense are Steinkuhler and Meredith who appear to have been stuck in neutral (along for the ride) the last couple years.

I don't know what happened to Maher. He was B1G 10 ST player of the year last season. It's imperative he not provide the short field.

Weird thing is, he had a pretty damn good game other than that horrible shanked punt......

There hasn't really been any in-between for Maher this year..........he's either been really really good (most of the time), or really really bad (here and there).
