The coaching is not. You can't tell me a better, more experienced head coach wouldn't be getting more out of this roster right now. Even with guys like Brodeur and Parise out of action. This season has been a disgrace thus far. The powers that be had better do something before Christmas.

fully FULLY agreed.

i believe mac has also completely missused his new toy in kovy.....

the guy is not the same type of player as them. he would work much better if he could even have a consistant pairing with someone like elias or tedenby imo, regardless of who else is on the line.

flow players need flow players around them to work.

I just want to hypothesize one thing. Isn't it possible that this is the Kovy that survived all those years in the Southeast with atrocious goaltending outside of Vokoun? There's a long, long history of scorers coming out of the SE and then dropping off. How many of us ever watched him play with regularity before he came here? It's quite possible that all he liked to do was dangle out past his own blue line and try scoring constantly on the rush.... I just don't know, but this season reminds me what a fellow fan said at a game one. He's no Ovechkin. he may be right behind him in scoring, but he's not him at all....

see i dont think so...

yes he's no ovechkin.

but you'll be hard pressed to truely name 10 players in this world who are without a doubt better than he is.

this is hopefully a blip on the radar, but you don't scored more goals than anyone in the best league in the world over a decade because your division wasn't all that hot.

Zach Parise is one and every game this season I think horrible thoughts about Zach leaving and how we might have blown this by signing Ilya. The only saving grace is the Devils would totally pay Zach 6-7M so at the worst we match or get 4 first rounders...

rko, you're probably right, he wasn't this horrible last year with us. In fact I thought that he was pretty good.

Lou may have gotten us cap strapped but he did a marvelous job of staggering the contract expirations. There is really no reason to assume that the Devils will be unable to afford him. The worst case scenario at the end of this year is that a desperate team will give him an offer sheet in the 8-10 mil range. The Devils will then either match it or get 4 first round draft picks. the following year both Rolston and Marty's contract will be up and free over 10 mil in cap space.

Now that this season is lost, we can take another approach to this. This year was going to be salary cap hell and we lived it for sure. The next 2 years are going to see a bunch of bad and/or useless contracts coming off of the books. So while things are bad right now, there is light at the end of the tunnel. From a cap standpoint at least.

first post since finally getting the message as to where the old ESPN board had moved to... lol

kovy played 6 games vs the other 4 division rivals in the SE = 24 SE games

now that he's in the atlantic, he plays each of his old division rivals 4 times, plus atlanta 4 times = 16 + 4 vs atl = 20 SE games.

weak teams or not, he's only getting 4 fewer games. it does not explain the drop off in production. what does explain it, is, as others have said in this thread, horrendous freaking coaching.

the clueless looks, the bewilderment following an opposing goal, the lack of adjustments, the horrendously predictable drop-off in play during the 2nd period, all point directly to the bald idiot behind the bench.

if you want to blame the players, start with leadership, especially the one wearing the "C." at least he [gulp] maned up and said "we've been failing, and i havent done well as a leader, i need to play better."
