I thought it was ok.
Solid 7.
And I loved Searching for Bobby Fischer.

Would have liked to have seen more about the psychological side of the games.
The ending was left way too open ended.

On the plus side, ATJ is a tremendous actress.
She's all eyes and tells us every expression without saying a word.

At seven episodes and as a standalone season, I would recommend.

Fantastic show, ATJ deserves some kind of award for her performance imo.

Really enjoying this 3 episodes in. My wife talked me into it. I'd never heard of it (guess I missed this thread) and wouldn't have tried it based upon the subject matter. Glad I did and as others have mentioned ATJ is really compelling in the lead role. It's those eyes.

It's really good.

Also, if your wife made you watch Love Actually, the little drummer kid (son of Liam Neeson in the movie) is the rebel chess player that she befriends in Queen's Gambit.

Lol, though I have seen that movie she didn't talk me into that one. The gal next door told her about this one. A miniseries about a fictional orphaned chess prodigy? I would have passed. But I guess it's quite a hit from what I've read since we started watching it. One criticism I read was that, per the book it's based upon, is that she's too good looking for the role. I thought welcome to Hollywood..

Well the last 4 episodes weren't as good as the first 3. I thought it really started to drag with a lot of uninteresting filler about halfway through, after she'd basically established herself as a worldwide chess force to be reckoned with. Still enjoyed it.

From 4chan, idea for a trailer based on the current chess vibrating anal beads cheating scandal:

>a single high-pitched piano key
>"for as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a grandmaster"
>slowmo shot of Hans walking down a dark corridor from behind
>cut to his face, played by Timothee Chalamet, looking angry and focused
>"and I'd do whatever it took to get there..."
>cut to Magnus Carlsen, played by Ryan Reynolds, sitting at the chess table and looking up at Hans
>THE CHESS MATCH THAT CHANGED THE WORLD
>dramatic fast-paced violin music starts playing
>Magnus plays a move, nervously
>cut to Carlsen's coach, played by Idris Elba, is seriously trying to talk to Magnus
>"YOU CAN'T PLAY HIM! YOU KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN!"
>"Yes... but maybe..."
>Cut to Hans chatting to Andrea Botez, played by Charlie D'Amelio, as they lay half naked in bed together
>"This match against Magnus. It will eat me"
>Andrea hugs him
>"It might force me to go further than I've ever gone..."
>cut to Hans screaming at himself in a mirror with the sound cut out
>Hans moves a knight back in the match
>Magnus looking very serious riding in the back of a limo
>cut to Hans chatting to his coach, Maxim Dlugy, played by Mark Rylance
>"Hans my boy, not everyone can be good. Sometimes more..."advanced" tactics are needed..."
>"More advanced? Like what?..."
>Dlugy pulls out a set of anal beads
>Hans stares at them, conflicted
>cut to Gotham on youtube, played by Seth Rogen
>"Ladies and gents have we got an upcoming match that will knock your socks off?!"
>titlecard: Carlsen v Niemann: Game On
>black
>slowly fade to a zen garden with Magnus talking to someone off-screen
>"I know we're not friends, but I could use some advice..."
>camera reveals he's talking to Hikaru, played by Simu Liu, smiling at him
>"This game supersedes any petty rivalry. Come Magnus-san, much to discuss, we have"
>COMING SOON
