No trailer for this show yet, but we can get an idea for what the show might look like from the trailer for the most recent MTG expansion set, War of the Spark:

I think the cartoon came before the game

No, the game came first, in 1996. The Pokémon anime was a spinoff of the game and began airing in Japan in 1997 and wasn't broadcast in the United States until 1998.

looks like it was a video game first, then a table top game, then the anime

but which movie are you referring to? the anime or the live action Detective Picachu one?

There are quite a few MtG books so there is a lot of lore to work with.

The trailer looks and sounds like something you'd see running in the background at a Gamestop. If they're trying to sell it to me then I'm definitely the wrong demo.

I do have nostalgia from playing MtG as a kid but there are better games out there.

I kind of miss playing.

I had a game on my phone made by Blizzard that was very similar to MtG that was kind of fun to play. I think I deleted it though.

Hearthstone? I know there is a popular video game called 'Slay the Spire' which is a roguelike MTG. I haven't played it yet but it has a ton of positive buzz.

I also like the Duel of the Plainswalker PC games but not really a fan of the newer Arena games.

There is so much planned obsolescence in Magic the Gathering that its pretty embarrassing as a franchise. Nothing that I'm willing to support.

as long as "Force of Nature" and "Lord of the Pit" are involved, I'm happy.

yea, Hearthstone

and I took a look at what MtG is now, and I am just staying away.

I miss the days of Serra Angels, Icy Manipulators, and Counterspells.

fuck yes.

I remember my illegal deck was loaded with some Eye for an Eye, Reverse Damages...Wrath of God

my tourney deck was basically a speed deck. Get creatures out fast and punch you in the mouth.

I havent played MtG in 20 years. Most people outgrow games like AD&D and MtG by the time they are 20.

Just the truth. When life starts to hit you and you have to work to survive somethings just get put away.
there is always time for doing stuff you love.

I have a career and all that but still find time for golf, tennis, volleyball, fishing, drinking...whatever I want.

I could play MtG if I really wanted

Agreed. Even if they designed the games better there would still be an issue of time and logistics. If my kids dont end up being nerds then my MtG collection is just going to collect dust until it hits the secondary market when I die.

I strongly suspect that when I retire, I'll get into whatever cool nerd things are out at that point. I'll just have to find some old nerds in the future.

yes. I'm starting to realize this with my old comics.

I'm planning on selling them to get some cash now. And some much needed space. Unlike most I actually bought them to read, not to collect.

My son inherited some of my nerd things like my Star Wars collection. My AD&D books are collecting dust though.
