From March 28:

Philadelphia Phillies 93½
New York Yankees 93½
Detroit Tigers 92½
Los Angeles Angels 92½
Texas Rangers 91½
Boston Red Sox 90½
Atlanta Braves 87½
San Francisco Giants 87½
Tampa Bay Rays 87½
Arizona Diamondbacks 86½
Cincinnati Reds 86½
Miami Marlins 84½
Milwaukee Brewers 84½
Washington Nationals 84½
St. Louis Cardinals 83½
Los Angeles Dodgers 81½
Toronto Blue Jays 81½
Colorado Rockies 80½
Cleveland Indians 79½
Kansas City Royals 78½
Chicago White Sox 75½
Chicago Cubs 74½
Pittsburgh Pirates 73½
San Diego Padres 73½
Minnesota Twins 72½
New York Mets 72½
Oakland A's 71½
Seattle Mariners 71½
Baltimore Orioles 69½
Houston Astros 63½

Surprised by a couple of things. The Dbacks are projected 1 win less than the Giants. The Giants (at 87 1/2 I think maybe a little low but could be the fan in me talking) are tied with the Braves for 2nd in the whole NL. Are the Marlins a little low?

Thoughts?

For example, the Giants 2011 O/U was 88 games and they managed to win 86 even with the injury debacles (and the Huffocaust). Now their O/U is basically the same at 87 1/2. I think we win 89-90.

I'm thinking 92 or so wins for the GMen. Posey alone is worth 3-4 games replacing Stewside. Add in Melky replacing Ssory Doc and PTB; Pagan instead of Torres/RoRo; Stamos instead of the corpse of Tenada; a whole year of Panda; and Huff being in an even year....92 wins easy.

Of course, Franchez may never play, Huff could go RoRo on us, Pagan could tank, Nate could play his way out of the lineup, Stamos could hit .220, Posey could only give us 100 games, Panda could....well, you get the pantshatting point.

As long as there are no major injuries, I see The Giants winning 90+.

Improved defense in the outfield and at short will make a great staff even better. Pablo is going to have a monster year.

What is interesting is that no fans of the top 10 teams can feel too comfortable. The Giants, of course, have a lot of question marks, but so do the Yanks, Phils, Red Sox, etc.

Anyone else think the Phillies are headed for a terrible season? Like .500 terrible.

They still have the pitching, but their offense is as bad as ours, if not worse (given a neutral field).

The big thing going against them is the fact that they are in the same division as the Fish, Nats and Braves.

No and here's why: as Giants fans we pencil ourselves in for 90ish wins this year. Because we have pitching. Well so do they. And their lineup is arguably at least as good as ours. So while we may win a couple of games more, the Phils are going to pitch their way to 90+

I'm banking on the douche factor among their top players (Victorino/Utley) taking a turn and creating a toxic clubhouse. With Charlie Manual not being a very strong clubhouse presence, I can see the team making a chaotic transition to mediocrity......... And they're OLD.

I completely agree that's the way it could go down. Teams you never expect do really well (2011 Dbacks) and others do a lot worse than expected. I think their pitching will get them to high 80s wins but your scenario is very plausible and I hope you're right!

I'm not sure they have the bullpen.

Ours is better but theirs is enough to win 90. Papelbon, Bastardo (what a name), Qualls etc is decent enough.

Fucking Papelbon.

It's as if the Philly front office found themselves saying, "What asshole can we sign to make this team hated even more?"

How much will the Reds win total be hurt by the injury to Madson?

My dad is in Vegas right now so we put $100 on a parlay, took the over for the Giants and the White Sox. I think it pays like 8 to 1.

Not at all worried about the Giants part of the bet, injuries aside. The Sox aren't going to be any good but they have a decent shot of winning 76-78 games, in a lousy division except Detroit.

Although I don't think the Phils will be .500, that under bet on them is a good one too.
