With the draft looming and lots of discussion and news headed our way, I thought it would be helpful to have a thread devoted to rumors, news and speculations.

Here's an article on WR Kevin White

Excerpt

How he fits the Redskins: I know that many of you are going to scream that wide receiver is not a need and the team can’t waste the No. 5 pick on a pass catcher. The first thing I would say to that is that you’re not paying any attention to McCloughan, who says that he will take the best player available. I’ve also said that need often does factor into the grade that determines the best available. But in this case that doesn’t matter because the team does have a need to draft a wide receiver.

How he fits: Well. He’d provide the Redskins with a quickness they lack outside. And, if used only on nickel and not worn down from playing the run, he could be a big threat later in games against tired tackles. Thanks to Murphy, Beasley would not have to play run downs (best guess: they’ll be in nickel 65-70 percent of the time). Clemson typically kept him outside (would sometimes line up inside), but he seems to have the ability to be used all over. With stunts and blitzes, he could be dangerous when the offense isn’t sure where he’s coming from.

Excerpt: Are you hiding out on HH Shark?

Steam has been gained, at least in my eyes, towards drafting Iowa OT/G Brandon Scherff with our first pick in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft, and I'm here to explain why.

Question - Outside of left tackle Trent Williams, what have the Redskins been lacking along the offensive line?

Answer - Powerful, young, versatile, athletic offensive linemen, capable of driving opponents off the ball, and keeping our quarterback upright.

Question - When is the last time the Redskins used a number one pick on an offensive linemen, and how often has this happened in the last decade?

Answer - Trent Williams was the last offensive linemen taken in the first round by the Redskins. He was the fourth overall pick in 2010. He is the only linemen to be taken in the first round in the last decade.

Question - When the Redskins were successful back in the 80's and 90's, what were those teams built around?

Answer - The offensive line.

Not really sounding like the Oline is the number one priority for Jay in the draft...

But that's just my take on his comments in the article.

is he the answer at OT? Well.... #Redskins' draft prospects: Brandon Scherff Washington Redskins' draft prospects: Brandon Scherff - ESPN

Excerpt

How he fits: Probably better as a guard because of his pass protection issues. Scherff would be a terrific run blocker and his weakness would not be as prominent and could probably be overcome. Do you take a guard at No. 5? No way. For those who think the pass-rushers have flaws and it makes you scared to draft them, watch some film of Scherff against Maryland or LSU. He has flaws in protection and you can't assume coaching will cure all of them, especially as a rookie. The Redskins would need to trade down before I'd feel comfortable taking Scherff. The good thing about Scherff is he offers versatility: he could play guard or right tackle; he can play zone or power schemes.

Haven't heard much mention of this guy from those of you who really research draft prospects. Thoughts?

Collins would be my 3rd or 4th choice as far as a O-lineman is concerned. Not quite worth the #5 pick, but depending on if we traded back and decided not to take Scherff or Peat... I could live with the Collins pick for sure.

Sadly I don't think our Redskins can be picky when drafting. You take the BPA on the board at #5 if you can't trade the pick. I would love to have the Browns 2-1st round picks and more for our #5 pick but if we are stuck drafting I don't see us not taking the best player on Scottys board. Seriously if he thinks WR White should be the guy then I say draft him. We will eventually need a WR. If its Beasley then great. We have to many holes to fix so you take the BPA. When your drafting 26-32 your team is maybe a few players away from the SB depending how FA went for you losing/gaining players. That's when you can draft a player by position over BPA. Say the Ravens drafting #26 need is a WR. When they OTC in the draft the #19 BPA is available but a OG, #23 BPA is available but a DT, #25 BPA is available but FS and the #30 BPA on their board is a WR. They the Ravens have the luxury to pick for need by position over BPA. If we continue on Scottys path of taking the BPA then hopefully in 2 seasons we also will be fortunate to draft that late in the first round and pick a player closer to our #1 need compared to BPA.

A lot of scenarios could happen if the Buccs trade back and don't take a QB in the draft.

“I can see why people would assume we’re gonna take a quarterback,” Smith said. “There are two excellent quarterbacks that are available at the top and when you get a chance to draft someone like that, most of the time, people do. But there are other good players in the draft also. I think it’s a deep draft for defensive line. Like last year, there are a lot of great receivers that are coming out. I think, just overall, the amount of athletes coming into each incoming class, it’s pretty deep for players that can make an immediate impact.”
