In case you missed today's news, Legendary UW head coach Don James has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and will start chemotherapy on Monday.

My wife works with cancer patients and notes that this is a particularly tricky form of cancer, but recent progress has been made and patients often can live for 2 or more years after diagnosis with fairly normal lives. Given his age we can only hope it was caught early and he responds well to treatment.

Our prayers are with you coach James.

Prayers to the Dawg Father and his family.

Pancreatic cancer has a couple variations, but only 20% live past 1 year, and 15% to 5 years even with early detection of the mildest version. It's considered one of the worst to get because it's extremely difficult to get to the organ and remove all the tumors, and it spreads aggressively to other parts of the body. His stomach issues were probably one of the side effects of this much more larger problem and that's how they found out what was happening.

Steve Jobs had the most mild of the versions and was detected early, but even with the best medical treatment available to him, including a liver transplant to help, it still eventually took him.

Oh I know given his age and recent medical issues that it doesn't look good for him, but I'd prefer to keep some positive thoughts and hope he is the exception to the rule and is around for a few more years.
