My biased opinion: Rocket Ismael.
My unbiased opinion: Bo Jackson.
Bo heeded your advice!I was at the game where "Rocket" Ismael ran two kickoffs back (in the rain), after the first one I told my friend, I'd kick i right back to him. What are the chances of him running two back in a single game in the rain. I never got a chance to be a coach at Michigan after that.
I would go with an Offense Lineman (probably a Left Tackle or Center) ... my choice is Orlando Pace
Honestly it doesn't hurt my feelings when people go with Herschel. No running back has taken the field and been able to do what Bo and Herschel did from an atheletic, speed, power and game changer factor. Every time they got the ball it was a threat they would take it to the house. It took an amazing corner to take an angle and catch them, then of course they had to bring them down.My biased opinion: Rocket Ismael.

Both are physical freaks of nature for sure. I just give a slight edge to Bo.Honestly it doesn't hurt my feelings when people go with Herschel. Rocket was in NOLA talking at the National Title thing. I was too late to get to see him speak. Was pretty bummed. Before my time but the dude was a legend, plus he has one of the coolest names. My biased opinion: Rocket Ismael.

Good call on Pace though.
Honorable mention Will Shields.
I like you train of thought but I tend to go a step further and give extra weight to iron men players. I end up debating between Bronko Nagurski, Jim Butkus and Chuck Bednarik to challenge Jim Thorpe.
Jim Butkus? Dick's younger or older brother?
To tough to pick one.
Jim Butkus? Dick's younger or older brother?
DICK Butkus was a two way All American. Linebacker and Center.
Hershel Walker was a freak. He was bigger than most of the defensive lineman he faced, he was faster than everyone else on the field or in the stands and most of the people watching on TV.
What players when they were on the field, offense or defense, did the other teams have to 100% worry about?
Bo Jackson was another freak athlete, basically a Hershel Walker clone but he attended Auburn.
Earl Campbell, wow.
Don't forget OJ simpson. yeah, he is a prick, but in college football, he scared the other team.
Ndamokong Suh's senior year, he was triple teamed and still dominated everybody. But he only did it his senior season.
Rich Glover, dominated. In 1971 Oklahoma's All American Center, Tom Brahaney, went to the sideline and said to Coach Fairbanks, I can't stop Rich Glover.
Warren Sapp was a dominating force and he did it multiple seasons.
Lawrence Taylor redefined the college football linebacker. then you had Ray Lewis.
John Hannah at Alabama. One of the best OL I ever saw play.
Dave Rimington, probably the best center I ever saw play. Only two time Outland trophy winner.
Orlando Pace only two time Lombardi award winner.
Deion Sanders, he defined how a defensive back could dominate a game.
