I miss AHL hockey! We were the last Maritime city to switch from the AHL to QMJHL as the AHL expanded out of the northeast and into larger markets. We had the AHL Flames here for 10 years including 1 Calder Cup victory in 2001. Not that I don't love junior hockey as I obviously do. It would be nice to have both. :D

If you could have one or the other, which would you pick?
I'd probably take CHL... not sure though. I haven't seen too many AHL games live.

I heard during the game last night that the Kings' farm team could be in Hawaii and the commute to LA would be shorter than what it is from Manchester.

would make for some brutal roadtrips though

Personally I would take the CHL as well. I may be a bit biased though. I've been a Sea Dogs season ticket holder since day 1. I was younger and just a student during the AHL Flames days and could never afford season tickets so I would catch games here and there. That's a pretty hot topic of converation around here. It seems most people who have been hardcore fans of both would pick the CHL but that the majority of the casual fans prefer AHL and perceive the CHL as an inferior product. The AHL had much better attendance. Its apples and oranges though. The AHL team produced more NHLers by far, but I tend to feel more of a connection or sense of pride with our junior guys than our AHL guys. There are still a hand full of former Saint John Flames in the league (St Louis, Stillman, Roloson, Guiguere) but nodody hardly ever talks about that around here anymore. The day Yann Sauve made the NHL for a brief stint, it was major news.

yeah, I agree. the guys in junior tend to give 100% every shift. that's not always the case in the A (some guys at the end of their careers, or that's the top level they will reach).
I do tend to keep closer track of the guys who have moved on from the Giants (Lucic, Kane, Meszaros, etc).

Rypien with the OT winner today to square the series at 1.

career AHLer Marco Rosa is making a push for an NHL gig in this series.
tied it up with 49 seconds left in the 3rd tonight, after a 4 point game yesterday

Does anybody have a shot at beating the two time defending champs with Holtby in goal now?

Update - Holtby has the second worst save percentage in the AHL playoffs right now.

Me thinks perhaps Carlson and Alzner don't get enough credit.

Mooses force a game 7 with Monsters.

Sergei Shirokov has tied a team playoff record (with Yannick Tremblay. Yes, THE Yannick Tremblay).
6 game points streak in a series. so ... good for him, i guess.
Marco Rosa has been carrying the team from the boxscores I've seen.

Go Mooses Go!

/not sure where they are going to go when the Jets take their building though.

The Hershey Bears reign as Calder Cup Champs is over. They lost a 2-1 overtime decision to Charlotte today. The Checkers next opponent is the Baby Pens. Go Wilkes Barre!

Incredibly impressed with the Baby Pens storming back int he playoffs. There's a lot of hatred between them and the Checkers, so that'll be fun (especially with Pogge in net...he's played some horrible games up in WBS).

I don't think Pogge will be hitting the ice in this series unless Murphy gets hurt or struggles bad.

Murphy got the nod starting in game 3 against Hershey and posted wins in 3 out of 4 starts. Also looked real good in that game 3 loss.

WBS owned the Checkers all season though, so here's hoping the Checkers are due for a few wins.
