Did VT have a lot of true rivals in the ACC when you joined?

Of course ... UVA. The biggest one of them all. There are some other not so deep ones (as apparently WVU has as well) like Miami, Boston College, Pitt..

Thing is... It is much easier, cheaper, and lucrative for VT to make that move. It was a no brainer. Minus BC, and the Florida schools, every other ACC school is within a 6 hour drive. Many as close as a 2-3 hours (Wake, UVA, UNC, Duke, formerly MD).

:bullshit: ... Really? Why does WVU have to be in the ACC to continue its rivalry with Pitt? :lame:

I agree. There is a NC slot or 3 available. Why did the Pitt and the Marshall rivalry end??

The Pitt series ended as a result of the change in WVU's 2012 schedule when they entered the Big 12 without waiting the 2 years as Pitt and SU did to avoid the penalty fee. Once WVU entered the Big 12, they had to play 9 IC games and only 3 OOC were available. There was no room to keep Pitt on the schedule with contracts established with other teams that season. Going from 5 to 3 OOC games in the switch from the BE to the Big 12 was the reason why WVU backed out of H/H series with schools like FSU and Mich St as well. No way WVU could keep 6 home games... at least... in the years under contract to FSU or MSU.

WVU has repeatedly approached Pitt about playing again, but the talks are one sided.

As a VT fan, you know VT and WVU are going to be playing football and other sports fairly regularly because of the AD's from both wanting it to happen.

The problem with the Marshall series had to do with playing there every other year. Under the arrangement made, it was a 2 H/1 A... with the winner of the 3 game series being offered another home game in the extension. Marshall's AD wanted a H/H... which WVU was not in favor. Marshall plays in a tiny stadium, and does not pay well. As with any business decision, it was all about the money. WVU offered to continue a 2H/1A, but Marshall rejected it.

You guys should be pissed that the ACC did not get WV. The ACC purged the big east and left the best football power to go to the B12 and get better conference. Like having a girl dump you in high school and later watching her get fat and ugly after you found a trophy wife.

Would have been nice to be in the ACC this year. Run through a weak schedule, beat FSU and play for the NC. We don't get an easy path in the B12. But then again, in the ACC, there is no chance of having 4! Top 10 teams coming to your house in one year.
