That Dave Parker documentary on MLB network was pretty good.

Murphy had a great run from 1982 to 1987, playing in almost every game.

Home Runs
1. Dale Murphy - 218

2. Mike Schmidt - 216

Games

1. Cal Ripken - 969

2. Dale Murphy - 967

Runs

1. Rickey Henderson - 691

2. Dale Murphy - 660

RBI

1. Dave Winfield - 637

2. Eddie Murray - 630

3. Dale Murphy - 629

Runs Created

1. Dale Murphy - 748

2. Wade Boggs - 731

I guess his knees gave out, because he had a lot of mediocre seasons before and after that. He was probably lucky the Braves were in the NL West. I think the NL East was all astro turf except for the Cubs back then.

Murph was THE ONLY thing the Braves had for easily 4-5 seasons. His stats would have been more than enough to get him in had he just had a little more supporting cast.

Well that's a stretch. It seems like they don't put anyone in based on 4-5 years no matter how good they are. Chase Utley has a WAR7, and WAR5 better than lots of Hall of famers but I don't think he is going to get close for the same reason as Murphy-bad knees. And he even has a rule named after him.....

I think Utley will get in within his first 5 years on the ballot.

I also think he should get in, so maybe I'm biased.

I don't know. I think the voters like more longevity. Although maybe now they look at some of these new metrics like WAR7 and stuff. His WAR7 is higher than the career WAR of some of the recent inductees and higher than the WAR7 of some guys that got in easily. And if there was ever a guy who had "intangibles" it was Utley. How many double plays would Ryan Howard have hit into if he didn't have Utley putting a little fear into the 2b/ss with his slides? And twice his teammates won the MVP award when he actually had a higher WAR.

But with all that, I think the voters may say he didn't have enough career hits or something.

I'd almost rather he not go in if the alternative is that he goes in on the committee ballot and be remembered with the likes of Jack Morris and Harold Baines. That's like winning the Nobel Peace Prize but having to co-share it with Henry Kissinger and Lê Đức Thọ

A fan at Wrigley tried to get on Parker during warmups in one of his later ML seasons....
"Hey Parker, why don't you just go home?!"
"Oh, I will go home when I'm all done...to my big mansion with a swimming pool, 5 car garage, it's so nice!"
The crowd laughed and started to mock the bitter old fan doing the heckling, who got mad and then yelled,
"You always were a bum, Parker!!!"
Dave should have just relished his victory, but he started cussing the guy out and acting like he was gonna go in the stands after him so his teammates had to drag him away. Too bad.

No way Parker is a HOFer, he had the potential but liked nose candy more than baseball.

Parker is one I would not have wanted to tangle with. Big, strong, quick hands, & very likely coc'd out of his mind. Not something you look for in a fighting opponent.
